right... my mates brother in law has just bought a narrowboat.. I was called in to help get its 1950's/60's diesel engine started up.

once it was running, we started checking round it to sort it out for its trip to its new home.. the alternator is whats causing the trouble..

someone removed the dynamo and has fitted a brand new bosch one from some sort of vw. it has 3 terminals B+ D+ D-.

the previous owner has connected B+ to the warning light, and D+ & D- to positive & it isn't charging.

by spending a bit of time on google, i reckon the D- should be to either earth or nowhere, but most likely earth..

any help will be gratefully appreciated.
