Hopefully not when its finished...

Anyway in sept/oct we (Kas + Al) decided to buy a nova turbo when our astra vxr was being kept up with a 1987 redtop nova on carbs (credit to brodie).

After looking on pistonheads and ebay we found just what we wanted and ended up getting the BARY BOY MO FO.

Heres how it was when we first got it :
sprayed silver dash with pods and built in dvd player.

Fully seam welded engine bay complete with c20let engine and f28 gearbox and poybushed.

Kitted out boot and where the back seats were. with 4 subs and 3 amps, sadly never got it set up to hear how my future section 59 would have sounded.

Hand made door cards.

F50 badboy extended bonnet and ?$*!t front bumper.

1 wide arched wing. other side cut and ready to wide arch but complete mess.

side shot showing bucket seats, spoiler, back bumper, mirrors etc. also smoothed delocked doors.

The dreaded roof scoop :|

back bumper and tailgate and exhausts...all 4 of them. rear lights put into bottom of bumper and plates welded over tailgate.

Overall a big challenge for us as weve never undertaken a project car before. HERE GOES!!!:thumb:

Firstly we got to work on stripping out all of the subs amps and wires and cutom built box thing in the boot. Took quite a while but got there in the end, havent got any pictures to show this at the moment sorry.

We then got to work on getting a new bonnet, front and back bumpers, tailgate, lights, and cutting out the front arches and welding new ones on.
Here is the rear of the car with new tailgate and rear bumper on with the exhaust made into one. still need to put the rear lights in here by cutting out the welded plates over where they were originally.
http://i47.tinypic.com/s5bfqe.jpg

We cut out the front arch (this one was wide arched) and welded a new arch onto it.
http://i48.tinypic.com/317e5xy.jpg

Brand new coilovers that came on the car and drilled and grooved black diamond disks.
http://i50.tinypic.com/2lvmxzo.jpg

Heres the arches that we welded on.
http://i46.tinypic.com/34617yx.jpg

Sprayed to stop rusting. coming along now.
http://i48.tinypic.com/314ywwl.jpg

Removed the front bumper and took of the front mount (that you can see in this picture).
http://i47.tinypic.com/5frzte.jpg

New front mount intercooler and bumper!
http://i50.tinypic.com/23w5zwo.jpg

Here is the car with new wings welded on and starting to fibre glass and fill her in. New front bumper and new front mount fitted. Bonnet with astra gsi vents and spanking speedlines.

This is the stage we are at now. We have still to fit standard mk 1 doors as they currently open by popping under the wing mirrors, we need to get a dashboard and clocks set up, few other bits and bobs and a good spraying.
Still thinking about what to do with that blody roof scoop!!!!

Underneath all the filler and body kit the shell was immaculate, plus too much work refitting the engine into another car.

haha couldnt believe how quick his was considering we had it mapped and full exhaust on it. Al saw his white SRi i havent.

Yeah he put it on where the sunroof was, suppose were going to have to chop it out and weld a plate over it.

Yeah the same Daz that was on Britains worst drivers. , haha im glad he didnt learn i made a massive £15 off the front and back bumpers. haha.

just what i was thinking when i saw the evo scoop on the roof, i remember seeing a vauge WIP on here about this iirc, so this is where the £10k went that he got off the show lol lol

that guy was a dick!

p.s about the car, coming on nicely mate, looks like youve saved it, would it of not been easier to just bolt some normal front wings on rather than welding two together???

kasal
23-01-10, 07:07 PM
yeah but he had smoothed the wings at the top in to the car so didnt realy wana try taking them off lol

from the looks of that shell when the previous owner had it in the body shop, i'd say your more than likely to have a minter under all that shyt, and im sure you make a proppa job of her:thumb:

Fair play for attempting this.

How come you did'nt just fit two new front wings tho ?

surely would of been easier.

Graeme
24-01-10, 09:30 AM
Due to them being smoothed into the A pillars Edd

kasal
24-01-10, 09:30 AM
we was going to but he had smoothed the wings into the body at the top

Edd
24-01-10, 09:35 AM
ahhh right i see.

looking at the pictures of when you got it, its clear that whoever built it obviously has a mental health problem lol

As already said, if you're reasonably handy with bodywork I'd get the fibreglass roof skin off fearless. He's quite near you too.

mr5050
24-01-10, 02:50 PM
with the roof i would get a nice sharp chisal and hack away 5mm above the original roof, then hit it hard with some 40 grit and work your way down to metal then blitz it with ome 120-240grit. there is a roof under all they fiberglass, why cut it out when it can be saved...... or find an acid that burns plastic/fiberglass and not metal.

kasal

we went to the nova today and got cracking on the dashboard.
http://i47.tinypic.com/dng3cy.jpg
Basically took all the pods off and just had a look at what was what behind there. Going to pull the rest of the dashboard off when we get our new mk 2 dash with digi clocks.
http://i45.tinypic.com/2mh6k2f.jpg

We also thought wed peel back the lovely fake leather to reveal what looked like sam mitchells nose [ a bloody mess ] ..

http://i45.tinypic.com/wkr1wg.jpg
This was the only pic i got of this because the phone died.
dont know if you can see it properly but basically theres just a massive hole in the roof with a bit of mdf, clear plastic and a shed load of fibre glass and filler.

Well get some better pics tomorow when try and break through that roof.:)

Connor
24-01-10, 07:17 PM
Is there no way you can cut more out of the roof and put a sunroof on or is it too big?
