hey guys, i was having a discussion with someone and they said that an XE on 45's would see about 12 MPG is this right?

and that TB's would see alot more.

what experiances have you had?

had this person owned one then?????????

of course an engine on 45's is going to drink the petrol if you are giving it some proper stick, but you'll probably get more like 30mpg on normal runs

Best talking to Martin Kelson, he had 45's said it was bad on fuel and has npe gone for ITB's

yeh this guy owned one, and has also now gone for TB's

also, what i done understand is, surly the XE needs a certain amount of petrol to run right.

so why would 45's use more then TB's. is it because injectors are more accurate and thus more effective?

I have R1's and my bro has a 2.1 8v on 45's. You'll see more than 12mpg lol

Normal driving I probably get 28ish. a nice cruise on the motorway at 60 and i'll see 35.

All depends on how heavey your right foot is, and how well you have them set-up.

I think you've answered your own question;)

I was told many years ago by a guy who worked for Swift Motorsport that a fully prepped 1.3 Nova Sport rally car did @ 8mpg on stage, they experimented with the Irmscher multi point injection on 2 cars and achieved @20mpg on stage, although the 40's had the edge off the line.

Fuel consumption will vary with operator inputlol

If you are worried about MPG - you dont buy 45s or TBs. Similarly, you dont buy them if you want to pootle around town and go to the shops etc:roll:

Id say "teens" will be normal when giving it some on carbs.
Mid-High 20s if sitting at 3k rpm on light throttle.

All depends who sets them up though of course.

As Will said, if you want MPG dont fit carbs and get a tdci

ok, so lets say, im not gonna get a TD. and i am on a budget,

should i save up for a 1500 TB set, or save about 500 all in for a set of 45's....

Personally id go TB's.
You can TB a XE for a LOT less than £1500.

Set of QED DTH bodies=£600-£700

£300-£400 for a 2nd hand DTA/MBE

If you're trying to keep outlay costs down then go carbs, you can buy a set of 45's and manifold for £400 or less. then £50-100 for pump and filter and £200 for HH dizzy set-up or £150 for MJ.

Then... Cost of mapping v's Cost of tuning.

My bro drives his 2.1 8v on 45's everyday... I think it would be ok if it was in a standard interior car.

chimp007_uk

I agree. Had 45's on an XE and couldn't get more than 70 miles to £20. Having said that I only manage 100 miles with a standard XE

i had an xe on 48s and wasnt bad on fuel unless my left foot got heavy usual running would get about 275 miles on a tank in the nova saying that tho when i first did it and had the foot to the floor i got 80 miles out the tank

My XE on throttle boddies gets fantastic MPG, when we went to the ring in May last year I was getting a load more than a XE running 45s. Going to Billing from Newcastle takes just under a tank so if anyone wants to work that out NE15 newcastle upon tyne to Billing

the hh set up is the same as a 1.6 mk2 cav so can save alot by going scrapers its what i ran

if its a daily leave it on standard injection tbs and carbs willuse loads more

Adam

But its re-weighted so it gives a more suitable ignition "map" for a xe on carbs.

Dont forget a mk2 cav 1.6 dizzy has been setup/weighted to give the correct ignition advance for a 1.6 8v engine on a single carb, not a xe on twins...

really i usually use my left foot for changing gear?

Food for thought;)

My Nova Sport does 27mpg cruising steady on the motorway.

My 3.5 litre V8 Rover Vitesse (on fuel injection) does the samelol

gearing fact.....

i bet the fuel figures alter dramatically on the rover when it isn't cruising on the motorway

You are quite correct Sirlol

I have clocked both mpg wise when attending shows i.e. under the same loading conditions.

Yes big right foot seriously decimates petrollol
