View Full Version : Big Block Mount positioning.

Car will be going bodyshop very soon. Whilst it's there it's having engine bay welding done. Is it possible to remove and re-position the passenger side engine mount without having the engine at hand?

I know the engine is normally used to double check it's positioning but I'm assuming that the mount is re-positioned the same in all Nova's that have big block conversions.

Just wanted to know how much to move the mount by.

Would be easier with the engine. Maybe take some measurements from other LET owners off here?

Thats what I'm kinda waiting for, some measurements off other LET owners.

Been covered before somewhere (Mig maybe) and mine, The Simps, Andy B's and Keith Robinsons were all in different places on the chassis leg. Best bet is getting the engine sat where you want it.

I assume you mean for the F28?

I fitted mine with the engine in position and was worried that it nothing like the mtech picture

Sorry to barge in, but does a LET with F20 require the mount to be repositioned?

No, just the gearbox to be changed once a month.

no

Cool, na my mate runs a let with f20 and a quaife atb it's lasted very well, as it's usually the diff that goes before the gears, anyway I can get three F20 boxes for the price of a duff f28lol Maybe more....

My mate had a c20let 285bhp corsa gsi and he used to fit a new (used) f20 on the saturday morning and by the next saturday morning he's have to fit another, 2nd or 3rd everytime, did this for six weeks and finally gave in and fitted a f28

Its harsh gear changes and sticky tyres that does it imo

I've broken F20's on a standard XE, maybe its my driving style.

I'm wanting ATB with sc/cr gear kit, don't want a 6 speed if I could I'd get a 4 speed and longer diff

With a SCCR you will be doing about 4.5k rpm at 70 in 5th!! Also they aren't rated for much torque either and with the price of them you will know about it when it blows up.

I looked at this for mine as it seemed easier but decided against it for the above reasons.

It's depends on you diff ratio what speed you get, I don't want anymore than 130 on the redline, on the roads up here there aren't many long straights :d

Unfortunately thats not possible, still waiting to find an engine and the bodywork is starting next week.

The mounts not being in the same place would mean that all engines are fitted slightly different. Some right some wrong.

try taking your foot off the accelerator before changing gearlol lol full throttle gear change ftw! ah no seriously my brother has blown 3 f20's on a standard let and ive gone a year drag racing mine with an f16lol lol i think the fact that i knew it can explode at any time made me go easyish on herlol

the issue with F20's is debatable. Some people have had them and had no problems some have blown them up quickly. Some have used F16's with unexpected reliability.

Which F20 would be better suited to a LET if it were to be fitted? (I know there are a few types of F20)

Novatek, where I welded the mount on my saloon turned out to be slightly adrift so I just redrilled the bracket. You could do the same if your slightly out too.

f20 boxes suck imo.
my mate needed a new f20 every 2 months on his mk3 astra c20xe (cammed, chipped, headwork).. after 3 f20 boxes we fitted a f16... and the f16 lasted for 6 months (sold it, dont know about the new owner)

my f16cr lasted a whole year on a p2 let. Just drive it with respect. Never looked back after fiting the f28. 6th gear at 80mph then planting your foot is fun, especially with 24psi overboost.

you all fail, lol chewing an f20 attached to a 1.8 TD FTW lol
