I've got a 1.4SR at the mo and am ready 2 mod the engine.
Is is worth twin webering ny 1.4 or shall i just buy a GSi engine and carb that?
Also are any of the bit interchangable, like the exhaust manifold/system and inlet manifold for DCOEs?
Has any1 any experience with the OMP group A exhaust? Any Good?
Ta muchly

exhaust manifolds will fit any engine, although its not a good idea to put a 1200 manifold on a 1600 since its gonna restrict it a lot

the 40's on a 1400 can be a really good mod, couple it with a 1300 head, 1300 manifold for the carbs and a cam and your possibly looking at 110-120bhp with it all setup properly

the 1600 with 40's and cam will prolly unleash about 140-145bhp, u will need a 1600 manifold for the carbs tho since it uses different ports

How much horsepower do you want and whats your budget?

come on then CP mate, odds on if a 1.3 head fits a 1600 block.............?

it will fit but do you want smaller valves than the standard gte ones ???

i want to fit a 1.3 head on to an 1600SV unit i bought on the cheap.

cos the SV head is sh!te! and cos the 40s manifold i have is a 1300 castellated head, i dont want to have to swap / purchase a manifold.

will it raise compression through the roof?

will it work? :(

otherwise back to the drawing board!

give me the block then i can try with my 1200 head ;)

its bound to raise compression but by how much i dont know.

what size valves are in the 1.6sv head?? measurements please :)

i could be tempted to go this route myself as i got most of the bits except bottom end lying around :)
saves me ripping my 1400 apart again too

ps mike you got them pics nad measurements of the carb throttle holder yet?

going back to the original question...

Most people who modify the 1400 do so as they want to race in the 1400> class wich means racing mostly mini's, whereas with the 1600 they will race in the 1400-2000 class wich means racing Cosworths, Subaru's etc.

I would say that to modify both engines will be about the same costs, obviously you will get a buit more from the 1600's but there are a few 180BHP 1400's about. So really it comes down to what you want to do with the car when its done.

think i may just have to try and see what happens.

anyone know from experience what would happen with the 1300 & 1600 block.......? :?

as for measurements etc yes add me to MSN if u use it? im confused lol. have u spoke to me there before?!??

ok, so i'll stick with my 1400 lump and carb a 1300 head. whats best, the irmischer manifold or one from demon tweeks?
at the end of the day if i get bored i can switch to a 1600... :D
So any exhaust will fit any head- so an ashley exhaust manifold for my 1400 will fit a 1600? aren't the ports different sizes?
or shal i buy a 1600 manifold and stick it on my 1400?
Thanks
Oh and what about the SRi block- how about that with a 1300 head or a SRi head? i've heard that its a better lump than the 1400SR

dosent matter wther its a irmscher od eman manifold, same difrence. just not badged!

you say you will switch to the 1600 if its no good, but you will need all new manifolds then as the ports are difrent between 1400 and 1600 castellated and round respectively.

exhaust

yep your right, you can fit exhausts across the 8v range

again, u cant stick a 1600 manifold on a 1400 head as the ports are difrent.......

well u can, but it wont do u ne favours

is the SRI head round ports or oval?
would it be better to carb this?

mikeoxford

ok.
So now that i've found that my original 1400SR is pretty sh!t, i'm obviously gonna have to buy anotherlump- what shal it be? shall i just bit the bullit and buy a 1600 and not regret it or stick with a 1400SRi lump and carb it?
What best cos its gonna cost me pretty much the same to buy the lump.

well if its the same price then surely bigger is better

u answered ur own question
