Has anyone fitted PAS to their Nova? I'm still new to the vehicle and was wondering if it's a reasonably easy job. I was wondering about fitting a Corsa electrically powered rack - obviously this would mean modifying the steering column and fitting the centre-position sensor to it. If anyone has had any experience of this I'd be grateful for any advice or information you may have.

Cheers,

JR

I'm going to do this on my gsi which has a quick rack fitted, you need a steering colum from a late corsa b and a modified ecu as the nova does not have speed sensors to control the load on the colum, there is also a bottom support bracket to fit and weld into the nova and you also need to lower the steering wheel position, the control unit from harry hockley is £225 and a recon colum can cost up to £150, IMO if you don't need it don't do it.
The quick needs it when driving at low speeds and parking that's why I'm doing it. Also there may be fuse box clearance issues with a mk1 as I've only seen it done in mk2 novas.

Couple of options,

Get a Corsa b GSI pas rack, have the rack arms made shorter and use a saxo/106 pump,

Or get a late corsa b epas column like this,

To get the system working you need 5 wires, Ground, positive and switched positive takes care of 3 of them. The other two wires needed for controlled assistance is revs signal (green wire to your revometer), and speed signal at a rate of about 30 pulses per wheel revolution (use a AK - 15 IMP transducer, wired to the Blu/red wire). Alternatively there are controllers out there for around ?50 but you won't get varied assistance with speed.

You need to move/modify the lower column mount as well, and shorten the uj, all easy when you have the column to look at.

if i do it ill be going down the Corsa B EPS route

is it only really usefull for parking situations? mines standard nova rack

imo it's not worth doing unless you have a quick rack fitted.

is you use the transducer method it will be more sensitive at low speed e.g. parking.

I thought about this when I had my nova, and I was planning on using one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CORSA-RALLY-ELECTRIC-POWER-STEERING-CONTROL-CONTROLLER_W0QQitemZ180458186807QQcmdZViewItemQQpt ZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2a0425 6837). Hope this helps.

I was looking at them also.

But if you use a spi transducer AK type you dont have to turn a knob for thre resistance, or cut your dash up to mount it.

it is a good bit of kit, i just dont fancy having to turn something when the column can be installed cheaper using a transducer to work properly

yes it does.

cant you just use any spi transducer for a digi dash tho ?

including the AK type that you need for the speed pulse for the column.
always thought you could.

It is. You could make one for a lot less if you knew how :)
