In a long conversation with Mr Astley today he had a think and came back with the probable solution. mk4 astra 1.8s used a small block gearbox. The inner cv converts a big block shaft to 22 spline box :D When he converted said astra to CLET & F28 all he had to do was fit a big block inner CV.

So to go big block hubs on your nova or corsa you would need big block shafts and mk4 astra 1.8 inner cvs.

Should all work fine, Chris just advised to check the plunge on the cv but there's no reason why it would be a problem.

Thought I should share :thumb:

Do 1.8 mk4's not use same shafts etc as 1.6 16v's though???

Unless all mk4 astras have "big block" shafts

big block 25 spline shafts on that particular model apparantly, not sure its all. If it is the same shafts on all then maybe the 1.6 mk4s are the same. Do you know the name of the box used on the 1.6s & 1.8s etc?

That would explain why a lot of the X18XE1 cars I have seen for sale have 5 stud wheels.

So does his mean theres an easier way for me to finnaly get my 5 stud and cav turbo wheels ? lol

And no more threads about it at last....

Did but ive never messes around with driveshatfs or anything so im not really familiar with them.

So i could use cavalier 5 stud hubs and driveshafts with a 1.8 mk4 astra inner CV swapped onto it and that would work ?

LOL at aw06 lol

You need some big block hubs properly machined (or just buy Chris Astley ones) and fitted to the nova carriers. You then need big block nova conversion shafts and the mk4 astra 1.8 inner cv's. Can't see you doing it tho as its not a "cheap" mod based upon what you've been saying thus far.

agreed. fit the hubs shafts etc and fit an xe or some other big block motor.

Good thing with it I suppose is that you've then got most the bits to convert to xe/let later.

So the cv has a spline fitting on the shaft end.

But big block shafts wont be 22spline on the inner end.. Big block shafts are 33-34 iirc..

I think i better stick with the plan of buying some cut "N" shut shafts off someone, cant afford all that stuff just so i can put different wheels on.

Benn, the shafts are 25 spline then outer cv is 33. Normal inner CVs go from 25 to 33. These go 25 to 22. Chris said he'd even checked it in a catalogue. Maybe worth checking when you're at work tomoz?

how did astra dan on migweb do this on his 1.3 astra mk2? whatever he did, that principle will be fine for a nova too.

Ah are they? Thought the shaft had more splines.. Been a while since i counted. I'll have a lookie tho at work.

Dan used Astra/Corsa cvs. But the shafts have a different splines to a nova shaft. As i got the same cvs at the start of my 5stud fun. They just turned on the shaft.
