2.0 8v vs 1.4 16v

bit of a discussion between me and my mate, he thinks his rebuilt 2.0 8v with an f20 box will do 150 and smash a 1.4 16v nova both will full exhaust systems and induction kits, but the 1.4 will have a flashed ecu and mantzel inlet manifold new head and all the ecotec taken off (air con pump and power steering and that)

get it built and race. thats the only way. then swap cars and race again to take driver skill out of the equation.

exhaust systems and induction kits do feck all for power imho, and the only "gain" on an N/A reflash/chip is a higher rev limit which might be handy for racing etc.

obv I mean on the 1/4 not on the street where spastics race.

when i had a 2ltr 8v in my nova it dicked all over my 1.4 16v corsa sport, was a standard motor in the nova so probably about 120 bhp, nova's are lighter aswell tho, if i had a choice would be the 8v for me every time

and i was thinking the f20 box wouldnt touch 150 let alone with a near standard 2.0 8v, yes i plan on getting the rev limit raised a touch.

2.0 8v will probably get between 130-140 on an F20 but I think it would still beat a 1.4 16v, 1.4 16 will have less torque for starters, a lesser gearbox and less ponies.

btw, my old std c20ne engined f16wr box'd 4 dr nova saloon hit 136 on a private m-way. that was on a gprs road angel. needless to say my mates corsa 1.6 16v (never mind a 1.4) got ass fukked.

V-tec! my 1.6 8v can beat my mates 2.0 8v and im only got k&n and exhaust. i think the 2.0 8v is a waste of time and money for not alot IMO!

1 word. torque. like i say a 115 bhp ne in a nova is bloody rapid, ive had 3 with it in. get a 2.0 8v nova. put it in 4th gear at 25 and accelerate. when you hit 130 in the same gear its worth it.

oh right, was just wondering as were be running about the same power, also both fully stripped out, his being a mk2 and mine a mk1 so dont have all that sound deadening to pull out :P. yeah il be running a standard f15 i think or f16

bear in mind "on the strip" you wont be getting anywhere near top speed at the 1/4 line..... if either of you are then there is some lies being told either way lol.

2l will hump you off the line and you will have to pedel that thing very very very well to get anything after that, so in short youve lost mofo.

That reminded me of when my brother could only get 134 out of his. just couldn't hit 135 haha. not sure what box his is but it was very close to the red line at that speed. goes through some amount of petrol in half an hour though and i was the one paying for it.

this thread reminds me of a kid at my school (in the late 70's) who was telling everyone that his dad's TR7 convertible could do 140 because thats how far the numbers went on the speedometer whereas my dad's bmw really could

haha you've got me thinking about cars that have a speedo that goes way above the cars top speed. my dads old vauxhall midi van had clocks that went to almost 140 I think but would stuggle to hit 90 downhill with a full load.
