Talk to me!

Which one's do i need to be looking at to lift and hold a c20xe?

Could do we both really but i might be able to get hold of a crane for a week end :)

How much does a xe engine weigh ruffly? :thumb:

Cheap as possibly really

Sealey is prob your cheapest option.

Unsure on weights.

Red ones, there always better.

Youll only need 1.25t max (think thats the smallest you can get?) on a crane

XE's are heavy when you lift from your back i know that much

Crane to pull it out. Crane to store it TBH. Just lower it right down so the valve doesn't leak and drop your motor lol

You only need the stand if you're rebuilding. Remove clutch and fly and bolt to bellhousing. You can do a lot of major work with it suspended from the hoist/crane also.

[EDIT] Guess it's just me that read that wrong. lol I'm not changing it though! lol

But you have to fight with it like it's a pinata. lol

Aye. Get someone to hold it if you're taking big bolts out - or drop it to the floor lol.

Try pulling out an engine/gear/transfer box combo from a 323 GT-R.
There's awkward. lol

Jonn_Nova1 bloke will know what I mean. lol

Yeah you can do it with jacks but it's a pain in the ****. Much nicer working with engine cranes and stands!

350kg will be plenty. I think my stand was a Clarke one for about £40 and borrowed a crane off my mate.

Aye my stand is just a 40 quid Clarke one too and has had a number of twin cam motors on it of similar weight to an XE (unless XE's are stoneage and not all alloy contruction?) lol

Jacks are needed sometimes, depends if you have the headroom for the hoist. I concour though. Usually hoist ftw.

The bad ass Notts gangsta informs me that an XE does not have an alloy bottom end. No wonder a V6 is only 30kg heavier then! LOLZ

Crane is the best way, just lift it out and then drop it back in when ready, renting a crane makes it cheaper.. Engine stand, machine mart are cheap enough..

Engine cranes are lovely so are jacks but, telehandler/forklift does the job for me!

I bought a clarke one off ebay a couple yrs ago - its foldable so stores neatly away in the corner or garage when not in use - was £120 inc dedlivery to Scotland so well chuffed!

Weighed a TON though (literally!)

lol

We stuck a Puma lump in my mates Fiesta with a forklift. Not as precise as a crane IMO. Best of a bad situation though. lol

When we fitted the 16XE to Richies Corsa we used a home made crane his dad had acquired, you adjusted it by attatching a 1/2" drive ratchet to a socket welded to a piece of threaded bar. Only issue was we didn't have an impact gun, so that took a while. lol

^ exactly how we used to take the GTi engines out of 106/205's & have another in place within half hour.

ive done it before, you can usually fit them into a car and if you dont need one for regular use why bother buying one to lie around when your done with it.
im going to hire one of these badboys for my rebuild
