Project 2010 - Steve's Michalak Spider [Archive] - Performance Nova Group

Hi

After finishing the Irmscher Spider and building the Sport replica last year, it was time for the next project :d

A colleague offered me his rare Michalak Spider that he owned since 1993. As I could not resist, the car arrived at my home in December.

The car had been converted to MK2, incl. the engine (C14NZ).
The rare Scheelmann Sport seats had already been put in the car by Michalak, so they will stay in it.

The shell is in solid state, only rust on the rear arches. As the head gasket is blown, engine will be replaced.

What are you planning on doing to it Steve, please put it back to a MK1. :d

Found no rust on the turrets

And no rust on the sills, battery tray, rear panel and doors :thumb::thumb:

Only in the trunk, where the reinfocements had been welded

Plan is:
- Fit a complete MK1 loom
- 13SB engine
- MK1 interior

I will weld those 2 little rust spots and put in some repair panels on the rear arches
The colour will stay for the moment, just want to have it on the road for March.
I will maybe put an SR snowplough on the front

The 13SB will not be standard, I have a rare kit with a DMTR Weber carb, that was offered by Lexmaul in the 80s, I will put that on. Will suit perfectly to the Lexmaul exhaust system that is already on the car :d

Yes, but no pics. No time to take pics.
Did all the welding on the front and on the rear arches, painted the inside and started to reassemble the interior.

Love it. I really like the custom back panel on these, with those two scoop things that got behing the seats. Makes it look like they rolled out of the factory as convertibles, rather than cut and bodged like some of the other conversions.

There is a dutch michelak in astra mk4 silver, looks great on a nova.

Nicely done, wider wheels & lowering would make it even nicer.

I appreciate its rarity though & how savage it would be to mess with it too much if at all. Hat off.

That rear end really does suggest there should be a powerful noisy engine driving the back wheels.
