oil pressure sender/switch?
think mine is gone, when engine warm and idle my oil light comes on, when engine has rev's it goes off...
when i rev car in no gear the oil gauge goes up and down quite quick - is it broke? where can i get a new switch from and how much is it?

it is supposed to a certain extent yes, are we talkin major amounts here?
it does yes, i remember my mates GTE before we whacked the 2ltr 8v in and that did
on the digidash its more subtle because theres only four bars, whereas i guess a guage can move more left and right and visually will look like loads
my digidash has only ever been between nothing and three quaters never anything else

It might not be the switch it might be telling you something. Try checking your oil to make sure there is plenty in etc etc. That could be the oil light problem.
As for the pressure guage i think by the sounds of things they all do that. Mine does. To do with the increase in oil pressure when you rev your car fron idling.

think i got a lazy pump then? coz my light comes on but i got oil, but when i rev the gauge moves right up
My clock in me Sr did that, and even now with the digidash it goes up and down, when its warm it goes to the middle, but it goes up again if I blip it, and when I'm driving it is always indicating full.....so it must be normal mate.....

theyve given you a SINGLE wire pressure SWITCH
much smaller in size. only controls the oil level yes or no light telltale, not a guage
you need a TWO WIRE pressure SENDER

it must look like the one you are taking off and the one in my guide (the big one) as to my knowledge thats the only style that works / is available

its purely the tell tale light to say yes you got oil, no u dont
on a digidash its the ring around the oil can
on the normal dashes i assume a light comes on to say no oil or summat
u need the two wire one to get the guage to work......

gawd.......anyone got one lying around??
Mate, get yourself to Silverlake scrappies on botley road (see yellow pages), it about 15 mins from lordshill, you need to turn off on J7 heading towards P'mouth, cos I gutted an early SR on the weekend, but took no mechanical/electrical bits, so you could be lucky!
Also, addington lane breakers (near where that girl got killed :( ) have two late SR's an early SR and a GTE....so thats a good place to go too :)

I dont think you would be able to tell if it worked until you got it on your car (oil pressure) as for the switch for the light, try using a mulit-meter and testing resistance between the spade and casing. You shouldn't have to pay lots. The scrappy hopefully wont know they are ?70 new. I would say ?5 max. Or you could buy like a dizzy cap for a couple of quid and put the switch in your pocket!
(i am not encouraging theft from scrap yards by the way)

i went to both silverlake and the breakers on allington lane....the allington lane one had a blue SR...no spoiler,bumers,dash....
but had 2 cars on top of it so couldnt get to the switch...saw 1 other nova was only a 1.2 or summint and had the smaller switch with just the 1 wire
anyone got one lying about??
it it essential 2 have the switch wiv 2 wires?
mikeoxford
