Okay heres my view

I just dont get it.....okay if you have a bad crash but ive seen people spent £1000's on parts/extras for there cars and when there is a little rust people just start to pulling it all off again and then have the hassle of finding a good shell then putting it all back on again.

Surely if quicker/cheaper and less hassle to do a bit of decent welding ?

Id like to here your thoughts on the matter ?

Depends how far gone the shell is IMO.

Plus some people desire for shells that have had no welding.

There won't be a choice in a good few years time.

Nova owners are spoilt for choice for replacement shells considering it's a 'retro' car.

Not seen a shell that is beyond repair in the 30+ Novas I have had over the years. Had some pretty horrific ones but always could have been saved with a lot of welding. There is enough pattern parts around to pretty much rebuild anything - its a case of £££ and time thats the limit!

As time goes on and they become rarer I reckon reshells will prove more expensive that repairing.

Scrapped a fair few especially in my rallying days but that was mainly due to there being loads about and them being worth nothing

Wish I had saved them now but hindsights a wonderful thing!

I got offered a mint 3dr lhd mk2 escort years ago - all I had to do was collect it but was worth nothing then despite having MOT!!

I dread to think what that would be worth now as a mate of mine has paid £3500 for a 5dr mk2 1.3L . .

original standard escorts were ok, but they've had 40 years of development. ... they really ought to be good now.....

It all depends on how much you want to spend.
Any shell is worth saving- +if you can weld/ or know someone who can.

The thought is that there will be loads around for a while.
Like any other Vaux at 25+ yrs.
There are loads around until you want specific parts and you can't get hold of them.
The Mk1 Astra has already had this happen.
Some parts are so hard to get hold of (like hens teeth) that the prices go mad for them.
They are not as bad as the Mk1/Mk2 Ford for prices as people do not vaule Vaux's the same as Fords.
Wierd but true.
The Nova is a true classic car and there should be original examples knocking about.
Only the dedicated will keep it standard.
