Evening, I have a Western Digital external drive but cant get it recognised as a drive in 'my computer'?

I can see it in by going right clicking on my computer - 'manage' > 'disc management' but it doesn't have a drive name H:, I: etc which I think could well be problem.

Right clicking on it shows option to rename it but option is greyed out (I'm signed in as administrator).

I was bought of a mate who formatted it for a mac, may be irrelevant.

Bit stumped can anyone suggest a work round?

How can you see it but it doesn't show the drive? Sounds like it's not being read/recognised

I can only see by looking in disc management but it has no drive letter assigned. Can read make/model and see space remaining etc.

If only I could give it a name eg Z: drive I'm sire it would be available to use?

You need to format it. PC can't read a MAC format.

As above.

Richie: The disc manager shows all storage devices connected to Windows whether they are formatted or not, basically to allow you to prep a new disc etc

Cheers, but what if 'format' option is also greyed out?
