Would this be right? I thought only novas got this engine?
Yeah its right.
Hardly any novas had c16se's
Still not very common in mk3 astras either tbh!
But yeah, they did stick them in the Cesaro astras:)

and the gls
loads of pre-facelift astra mk3's had them fitted, but not with cr gearboxes

Really?
I didnt think they did - the only one I am aware of is the cesaro.... the gls had the crap low output 70 ish bhp version....
well, where do all the 'gte' engines keep coming from???? cos they ain't comin' from novas
i know a bloke with an astra 3 1.6mpi estate that has an e16se
the gte engines are from GTEs I expect - the e16 and c16 are quite different.
the e16's were deffo only in Novas.
If I am wrong - I need photographic evidence. The c16's ('c' meaning CAT) were in the astras, the e16's werent - they were released in 92/93, after the stoopid CAT regs.

the e16se & early c16se are different cos one has a cat!!!! the engines are mechanically identical.

What about the ECU/loom/DIS/MAP systems??
The entire engine mgt system is different!
Different ignition, Air/fuel systems etc too!
the c16se came in 2 forms... the early bosch one is almost identical to the e16se, the later dispak one is electronically different but mechanically identical.
In the main - the c and the e are identified by the DIS or dizzy or ignition system...
The e had no cat....
The c did.....
the e had a 2 different management systems - Bosch or Siemans
the c just appeared as one derivative....
End of... but youre right in the fact that mechanically they are ALMOST identical, but the later 'c' relied on a crank sensor and MAP sensor, and the casting of the inlet and mounts on the block were DIFFERENT...
I could go on, but cant be bothered...
Anyone else care to offer any words of wisdom?lol
if you cba to read the above....
There are 2 types of e16 (siemans and Bosch)
And one type of c16
your correct will f
in simple words the c16 is a more upto date modern
version of the e16 (in its day that is)
the c16se came in 2 forms... the early bosch one is almost identical to the e16se, the later dispak one is electronically different but mechanically identical.
There was only one type of C16se. (Dispak/crank sensor/map sensor etc)
No C16se's had dizzys.
C16se's had Multec mpi management whereas e16s either had bosch or siemens.
And as Will said C16se's are very different compared to E16se's.
Different cam/cam housing/injectors/inlet/tb/loom/ecu. The head is different too because it has no EGR hole. Pretty sure they have different compression ratio's as well.

So, after you've finished calling me names,
my view is there is a small block 1600 8v engine, that was fitted in some novas & loads of astras, it has had different electronic bits & bobs stuck on it & it will fit in a nova.
my mistake is that I always believed the gsi mk2 had a cat & the gte mk1 didn't. and there at 2 different versions fitted to the gsi model
So back to the start of the thread, the engine from the astra will definitely fit the nova & it is the same as the gsi engine.

You hardly ever see a nova gsi with a c16se in, most were e16
