hello

ive had a nova on the go very slowly now for about a month, decided it would be wise to get back on here for sum tehcy info and other such things

hope to get it ready by mid summer now

was plannin 1.6 16v pre ecotec, but looks like a 2.0 16v is a better option cos reasonable gte mk2 astras r nocking on for less than a 1.6 16v engine is going for

heres the car last week, since then itts gone onto axle stands for me to drop the lump strip the front end bare and get it all ready for paint and a bigger engine. its all seam welded up, the inner wing not shown in the pick has all been finished and painted, just need to do the bay, get some more handling bits to go with the coilovers (time to get a tas catalogue maybe) then modify the engine bay accordingly for the valver lump, then to get the engine bay all painted up.

ive got a small dilema

the engine bay is fully seam welded, so i grinded some of the seams down

then i fibreglassed over one of the seams, and fillered it all smooth etc...
ive only done one seam cos i aint sure if its all gonnna crack and go shit. if the seams are fully welded, surley there aint that much movement there? the use of filler is very minimal, same with the fibreglass

ideally id get it lead loaded, but i aint got the know how to do that, and that means spending money to get sum1 to do it.

what u reckon

Did u do it 2 cover the welds? when i welded my engine bay, i used purflex! its like the rubber underbody sealer, which ur able 2 paint over! its polyurethane stuff, looks like silicone! but thicker, and goes off harder!

I'm having my engine bay completely seam welded and smoothed with fiberglass, the guy said it wont crack, so i'm happy :)

unfortunatley theres no guy guaranteein the job on mine

mite look into lead loading, seen it on tv before, doesnt seem too complicated
