Once the car is ready take it for the Vic check, you can then apply for a log book after its passed, they may even do it for you now its been a while since Ive done one.

Following a VIC

If VOSA confirms your car's identity

If VOSA is satisfied with the identity of your car, you’ll be given a VIC20 pass certificate. DVLA will be electronically notified of the pass result.

You can apply to DVLA for a V5C using the V62 form. If your car was a category C ‘write off’ you should declare this when completing the form, as you are exempt from paying the application fee.

If you submitted a V62 form to DVLA before taking your car for a VIC, you’ll have received a VIC notification letter from DVLA. This letter should now be returned to DVLA, with the declaration completed.

...seems you can apply before or after the VIC, you'll need a V62 form.

Just been through the same process with my wifes new Meriva which I was told was a cat C salvage.

If you complete the online application for a VIC check on the VOSA site they will either a) give you a date for a check or b) advise that the car does not need a VIC check - at which point you then fill in a form to get the log book back in your name which costs £25 (better than a VIC check at £45)

Lucky for me the vehicle did not need a VIC check so I went down option b and a further bonus is that the log book does not hold a record of the cat c record (so I suspect it may have been a cat d)

Hope this helps

If your car is a cat c you do NOT have to pay for the logbook
just apply for it :)
Read the small print on there website says all about it.

Joff, yours must be a Cat D.

As said though if its a c you cant apply for the logbook untili ts passed, but you can tax the car instantly after it pass's at your local dvla office.
