I think Dar uses Marangonis on his road cars and likes them.

I still swear by my Falkens, but don't think they do them in tiddly size like that

Liam im glad you noticed lol

I think they are good tyres, before i got busted i did actually notice the difference, i had steelies on and killed it up the lane and it kept spinning off the line too much, after putting the alloys back on with those tyres, it gripped much harder, but when i was in the snow they are no good what so ever i couldnt even pull off.

May have just gripped better as they were a lot wider/different size.

If the ones on your steels were Goodluck Teflons then ignore me. lol

FK452 are better - considerably cheaper and I found just as much grip. Thats on a heavy AWD car though.

Fixed that for you, even though the've been phased out now :(.

I was looking for some decent rubber in 205/55R16 but the pickings are slim.

depends what there going on imo on a 1.2 they will be fine but on a let poo, i run yokahamas on mine in 195 50 15s can get them fitted for £40 a tyre so dont see point in saving £10 a corner and ending up in a ditch

for reference, my local tyre place charged me £2-3 per tyre more than camskill, BUT that did include fitting... had I taken the tyres there they would have charged me £10 per tyre.

I've got A539's on the front of the astra, they are pretty good in snow and thats about where they end their goodness.

Yeah I know. I was in a fix on a sunday though due to some debris ripping through a few sidewalls. It was those or some Michelin Primacy HE's which I already had on the car, and were crap.

As already mentioned, if you do buy tyres online make sure theres somewhere local thats willing to fit them...

Some places wont fit tyres unless they supply them, and others charge £18 a wheel(seriously)

Tyre choice is down to personal preference really. Although its worth bearing in mind that your 4 wheels are the only thing holding you on the road. So its really worth spending a little bit extra to get it right.

Goodyear F1 GSD3 for the mother ****ing win. I just bought a couple of months back for a grand total of £45 a tyre with discount. Superb tyre in the wet and nearly as good in the dry. Perfect for our weather (not snow though!)

P6000 are damn good although other people don't seem to rate them. I've had a couple on the rear of various nova's over the past 4 years. They haven't perished or worn and they still had 3mm of tread when they were removed. I had to get rid of them because I ran one of them flat and burnt the sidewall :( I cheaked the dot code (date of manufacture) and they were made in 2002!

Falkens are ****e and will probobly go out of shape/wear quickley. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. I've seen too many faults with them.

I've also just bought a couple of yoko s-drives for the back and they are kak in the wet and snow. I'm still yet to test them in the dry.

I haven't driven on Kumho so I can't really comment, although I have fitted and removed them. Build quality looks good and they don't seem to go out of shape.

Them maragoni's I have never even fitted them, let alone driven on them. I have seen one though and it wasn't soft, infact quite the opposite, really plasticy. I'm told alot of drifters use them? Seemed cheap build quality - I'd be weary.

Hope this helps!

Fair enough the 512s ARE sh!t, but the 452s are top notch. Each to their own, but I prefer them to the GSD3's I had on the Celica. Cheaper, more grip, more miles and the grip lasted longer (in the F1s the grip didn't fade as they wore, it was like grip grip grip NONE lol)

djshaggeh
14-01-10, 07:37 PM
I've not seen these 452's yet, as we don't stock alot of falkens. The 512's are tripe though. 90% of the time they go out of shape before they wear to the legal limit. I've had a few complaints from customers and they usually switch brand after having falkens. The thing with falkens is they have their pricing spot on. Again, I have never driven on them so wouldn't like to comment on the performance.

The grip fade on F1's I'm yet to experience. These are my first set and I still have alot of tread on there to get through :) I was amazed at how well they grip in the wet. I can give it full welly off the lights in the wet and they very rarely spin. I had P6000 up front before that and had to take it easy off the lights and round corners. Mind you they were around 3mm of tred left.

The only one niggle I have with the F1's is I had a camber out and its worn one of the shoulders out very quickley (about 2 weeks) but this was my own fault.

If I remember correctly, the last 2mm or so of the tread is a much harder compound. The performance change is exactly how Jack described, and the rubber feels different to the touch.

Oh nice, I didn't know that Welsh Dan. I will bear that in mind!

Such a shame they are fazing them out as the new F1 asymmetrics look rubbish. Its the end of an era! (god I'm sad!)

The Zeta Lineas are a good tyre for the price. The only gripe I have with them is that the wet performance is average. However the dry performance is great!

They are better than the Flakens I ran on mine in the dry but not as good in the wet and they are lasting longer than the Falkens.

I have exactly the same profile for every day use on my nova. These tend to crack on the outer and the inner sides here in Malta; don’t know if there it’s the same thing.
