Hi i have been offered a mountain bike but as im not really into mountain bikes im unsure what its worth and if its a good deal etc?

Its a Kona Cindercone in white,it has rock shock front suspension and shimano(looks like hydraulic?) disc brakes and (iirc)maxxis tyres

The bike itself looks in good condition.

Anybody know roughly how much these are worth second hand?I will only be using it to go to work and back(12 mile round trip)

The kona ive got is the stage up from this i think The hoss-deluxe, nice bikes to ride dont break alot either ive had mine 5 months and only broken a gear lever and went through a few sets of tires they were maxxis and seem'd to ware pretty quick but i did drift a fair bit lol and they were big chunky things and i did a fair bit of road cycling lol

amen to that, ive been looking around for another one as a (second) daily but prices are silly

back on topic, ive always liked kona bikes, never personally owned one but a few of my mates have and didnt have any problems with them - ive riden them and they seem very balanced and easy to ride harder than usual

Usual Taiwanese affair with clever marketing.
It'll stand you well know doubt, but be a thief magnet & some parts will be cheap copy parts of expensive items.

Emmelle Cortina was actually an OK MTb in its day.

Cannondales hold their money well.

I used to lust after a really fat top tubed Cannondale. Forget the name, M something :/ Awesome bike.

Wish I still had my Marin! used to be into MTB's a bit, but that was then. Plus the Marin was nicked and I ended up with a Claude Butler. :(

A lot of the 90's bikes kick 4rse. A mate has an Orange that hasn't see the light of day for over 12 years lol.

Never knew Emmelle made anythign decent Craig! Was just a sh1tter that my sister had. lol

Yeah most Emmelles were cheap. It was a brand created by Moore & Large (ML...Emmelle) Get it. Just mass produced Chinese tat.

I only really like the retro 90's MTBs from when I was into it, before downhilling & freeriding ruined it all. Rigids & hardtails, short travel & lightweight stuff.

I was registered on www.retrobike.co.uk (http://www.retrobike.co.uk) cool forum. Lots of PACE's & Klein attitudes to drool over.

There's a retro everything these days! lol

Cheers for the ML education. :) Will check that forum out [/engage jealousy]

Would you say it was worth £200?in other words would i be able to sell it a couple of months down the line for the same price if not more? lol

how much is he asking for it? I wouldn't pay much more than 200 maybe 250 if its as new. look around and you'll find some good deals. I wouldn't buy new ever, value basically halfs as soon as you buy it. IMO the older kona's are a lot better bikes, but I also believe all konas are slightly over priced or at least they used to be anyway, I've not looked for a while. If you need any help fire me a pm.

thanks for that, saves me buying a new bottom bracket for mine ;) lol

this is my latest ride, recently got back into MTBing (trying to get fitter and riding to the pub instead of driving means more drinking - WIN lol)

needs a bottom bracket tho but will have to wait untill the pugrot is fixed

You can get a good high quality second hand mountain bike for very little these days. I mean a bike not some nonsense with 6 inch travel front and rear
that you have to push uphill.

eBay is a good place to buy one. I got my Cannondale cad 2 f 900 for £200.

not a bad bike, but you could probably find better for the price. My advice is still to buy second hand, you can get a hell of a lot of bike for very little nowadays. I'll post photos of my kona's once I figure out how.

until some ba$tard broke into my shed while away and took it along with my tools etc:mad:
although i claimed of my home insurance,i spent the money on the house rather than another bike!

when deciding on what bike to buy, the intended use has to be taken into consideration. if comuting, then a full susser is just not needed... if you intend to do your local black run, then a rigid just wont cut it.
