hi everyone what sort of power gains can be had with a set of twin 40s a fast road spec cam and a four branch on a fully rebuilt 1.6 8v? just want a vague idea.
thanks. Mike.

Could be anything from 115 upwards, depends what jets your running in the carbs and whos set them up etc, there was a thread about this a few days ago, its more about drivability than all out power but it will have plenty of grunt thats for sure :)

Yeah around the 125 mark providing everything is well set up.

all depends on the vaugness of "fast road cam".... can mean anything from barely more than std upto 160bhp with the gay description of a FR cam.

some light headwork for sure depends if i give it ago myself on a friends flow bench or get a local professional to do it. i like the sound of 125:)

when i say fast road cam im talking about a 280 degree duration a nice fairly high power band but with a usable amount of toque left.

not that high a power band ime (not a bad thing though) 280 is the minimum thats worthwhile :)

also look at a piper BP300, although that is a shade peaky if you want true driveability

mmmm ive just had a look on their website and im liking the look of the stats but would a 1.6 8v happily rev to 7500? or would i have to cut the power short and change gear? is it a case of stronger rod bolts e.t.c?

arp is your friend

Get some arp bolts in it as above and it'll rev all day long. My last 1300 8v run Tad over 100 bhp at wheels and limiter came in at 8,200 but would usually change around 7,800

As long as you've built the bottom end correctly and used ARP's it should happily hit 8k.

IIRC my limiter was in at 7.6k. I'd suggest using an OMEX or similar as a safety gaurd, with a fairly peaky cam and bottom end work, the 1600's are suprisingly quick through the revs.

With something between 290-300deg, Headwork, 40's, Exhaust e.t.c you should hopefully see around the 130hp mark ; to get anything over that you really need to invest more money in the head. :thumb:

Its not just about the numbers though, getting it running nicely on webers is where the hard part begins.

indeed, but since so many people dont care and go for the numbers its where the whinging comes from.

oh yeah im not just after the numbers i just wanted to get idea of how far you can go with a 1.6 without spending bucket loads of money. plus a friend of my work owns a dyno and tunes bike/motorsport engines he said he'll set my 40s up, but i will be stood by his side taking it all in:)
