Erm....shouldnt the tops of the plastic parts be over the top of the seat fabric?!

I thought the same, maybe the Astra ones are different but how does the headrest come out if they are as you've done it?
vaughanmc
09-01-10, 10:48 AM
If those seats are 60/40's they should have had the indents/holes for the rear headrests
Every 60/40 seats I know of had them anyway :)
Agreed, how do you adjust the headrests up and down?
Southie
09-01-10, 10:54 AM
Vaughan it looks like a standard one with 60/40 Sri covers on it.
vaughanmc
09-01-10, 11:00 AM
Ahh right I see :)
Dont be blaming me for th stains on the back seat, they were fine when ricky got them. The passenger seat got some hammer tho, they lie right back like little beds lol
Oh and they are 60/40 covers on a bench type seat
dave watson
09-01-10, 12:35 PM
i farted on them rear seats like
No dave that was my other trim, its in rickys (nastynova) car. No random naughty sluts in my nova now, you would have to be a contortionist to do anything in fixed buckets lol
Not how i would do it but hey if the boys can chill now alls good lol
LEWI007
09-01-10, 06:01 PM
I put them in this way to make them sit lower, and plus i dont want anybody raising the headrests in the back cos it will look stupid.
And Alan, was it you who sold Ricky the GTE interior ? i want first dibs on everything you sell in the future lol
The scrapyards round here have already got my mobile number incase any novas come in.
vaughanmc
09-01-10, 06:07 PM
You ideally want a gap between the headrest and back seat
My inserts don't sit completely flush with the seats but they are fully functioning; They lock into place and can be adjusted:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/vaughanmc/My%20Nova/NewPics.jpg
Sit bang on line with the front headrests when looking in the front or back window :thumb:
If you haven't already, change your back headrests to Corsa B items as there a bit thinner and enable you to see more out the back window from the mirror :)
LEWI007
09-01-10, 06:41 PM
Yeah ive got Corsa B ones in the back and astra ones in the front.
Im not too keen on the gap in between though, maybe an inch gap maximum would be alright, but meh im not bothered, there in and they dont wobble about so all is good.

You must give him a blowsy lol
I just got a big drill, straight through the fabric, through the metal and mine fit perfect.
Your way isnt really the proper way of fitting.
Aye, the plastic plugs should be visible for it to be 'right'.
LEWI007
12-01-10, 09:37 PM
There is no "right" way of doing it because they werent meant to be put there otherwise vauxhall would of put them there themselves.
My way of doing it is just MY way, rather not shove a drill bit through my seats thank you very much.
And i can put the plastic insert at the top if i want to but i wanted them underneath so they dont stick out and look out of place.
vaughanmc
12-01-10, 09:39 PM
Technically there is a right way of doing it if you follow the front seats and buy 60/40's with the guides already there
Wee hole in the seat - Pop the insert down until it clicks into place then slot the headrest into the inserts
Job's a good'n :thumb:
My inserts stick out by about half a cm or so but they still work and they lock and can be adjusted
LEWI007
12-01-10, 09:42 PM
My headrests CAN be adjusted, because the metal bars they sit on allow you to move the headrest up and down on them, so there isnt any need for having the plastic bits visible, they can be adjusted all the way up t0 about 4 inch !
but i set them on about 1 so all headrests look even.
Also the way you said you can only do it on 60/40 seats, this method can be done on any.
I don't think that this constitutes a how to article, because no way on this earth is anyone else going to do what you've done to their rear seats.

if the seats arent compatible eg: ones with no holes in the seat metal frame then use cav gsi rears and fit them into to parcel shelf edge :thumb:
did you win the bodger award???? you should do

I know, i thought the same, but thought i might aswell show how i did it ;)
And also this way works, saves people raking around for cav GSi seats and stuff as mentioned above, who wants to rake around for cav GSi seats ?, its easier to just get your grinder out and get it over and done with.
Oh and they are 60/40 covers on a bench type seat
Oh, there's the huge prob then!
All normal 60/40 spilt seats have the holes.
To get the best fitting guilds your mk2 Astra rears from a cdx. I do have the part number. I've done 4 sets or seats now and didnt have any prob till my leather as they guy add drilled them like Mr Lewi, so nothing fitted and would sit flush (personal hate) and would fall out.
I swapped all my Gsi inner with the leather, they all sit perfect now.
This way or not at all IMHO

Aye thats the best way to do it, but what if someone wants headrests in a POV spec interior, you expect them to rake around for SRi bench and take the material off it for the sake of some holes..
Nobody has pov spec seats.

All the 60/40 splitting seats i have do this to had the holes. Its only cause you used a one piece bench.

IMO this thread's not a "How to" more like a "HOE NOT TO"
Dude thats a ****ing bodge an half, i would be ashamed to show others i had done that to any seat...sorry.
LEWI007
16-01-10, 05:44 PM
Hows it a bodge, it worked, they are in there solid and are not going to come out.
Maybe if i did a bodge job at putting an engine in or something that was dangerous then yes, but its only some fcucking rear headrests ffs.
Ive saved myself the hassle of looking around for a rear bench with holes in and saved the money of buying one.
agreed, you did. but you could have just drilled the holes, and fitted them as normal?

i dont see the problem lol, there povo seats with rear headrests it not as if you can see the fail. and imo they dont look that bad, anyway whos anal enough to get in the back of a nova and go "wait theres the plastic bits, they should be above im not having this let me out" no one, well maybe awo6 but still,
a good bodge by my standards

ok, try this idea......when & I don't mean if...... LEWI007 has his first decent accident with a car full of his mates (see xmas day thread about illegal driving) and one of them gets flung against one of the headrests, cos they most likely won't have seatbelts on, the headrest will come out & become a projectile..... these things are meant to be safely anchored
LEWI007
10-02-10, 09:06 AM
They are safely anchored, 2 nut and bolts on either side tightened up really hard, theres a small chance the headrest would come out, and then even if it does theres the chance that it might hit someone.
Youve got more chance of getting hurt walking down the street.
If something is worth doing its worth doing right IMO
LEWI007
10-02-10, 09:44 AM
Wtf is the problem, the headrests are in, theyre tight, they just dont have the plastic things on.
People on here are so fussy its stupid..
Theyre only headrests ffs.
If something is worth doing its worth doing right IMO
This qoute says it all IMO if your going to do something do it right first time.
Damo.
Lewi this is not aimed at you in anyway its common sense.

I'd have bought the proper split folding seats with holes already there
My headrest inserts don't sit flush for some reason but there fitted correctly and the headrests lock into place exactly as they should :thumb:
I'm also one of those folk who like it done the right way or not at all :)

Erm, its not a case of being fussy. I think its a case of doing things right.
Dont take it personally, people are just offering their opinions on how they would (and how you should) have done it.

Which ones are you using? If they are the proper rear Astra one they wont just cause of the shape of the foam in the Astra seats.

No idea mate, there black that's all I know - My Dad got me them at a scrappy
He also fitted them to my Mum's old Nova Flair which had 60/40 seats and they sat flush and also locked etc
Didn't need to chop them or anything, a quick 5 min job - But mine are a pain
Theyre only headrests ffs.
yeah, you only rest your head (the second most important part of the body) on them.....
if it was a cock rest, would you do such a job on it?

Sound like the mk2 Astra ones, its just the padding difference. That's the best bit, they clip straight in.
vaughanmc
10-02-10, 07:52 PM
Don't have a clue mate - Not really a big problem for me as I'm not in the back
There fitted correctly thought and they also lock and do their original function
They just don't sit completely flush but that's a minor flaw
I'm glad mine were done when I bought the car.
I needed a good laugh. A re-read of this done the job. lol
I burned my red/grey mk2 SR interior as I couldn't even shift it for £20/£30 and it was near mint. You could have had it - and saved killing everyone. lol

Haha, I always lob interior, lost count of the number that have gone over the past 18 monthslol
I have a question never done it before.... has anyone managed to release the headrest holders on seats? went to a scrappy to remove them and i couldnt get them to budge even takeing the seat padding off to get to them. so was planning to buy them from vauxhall.... to make it easy so then i can fit them to the rear seat for headrests or am i just being a dumb **** :tard:

sorry but that the best bit there only. to stop you getting wip lass less so need to be abel to adjust for different size passengers :thumb:
LEWI007
12-12-10, 08:58 AM
Mine did adjust, the metal bars in the headrests slide up and down in the headrest.
Im sick of people saying they were dangerous, they were tightened up rock hard they wouldnt budge, and i think if anyone did manage to get into a crash a headrest would be the last thing to worry about.
Danny, wtf are you talking about, you get whiplash when you lean FORWARD lol lol
Danny s-p
12-12-10, 09:29 AM
it when your head wip back off the inpacked that y is called wip lash and y head rest were invented and is an MOT failure if a car over a serton date don't have them fitted to the front seats
Whiplash is a neck injury usually associated with rear end car collisions. Any blow from the back can cause a similar problem (sports etc.)
In a whiplash incident the neck is hyper-extended backwards straining or ripping neck tendons or compressing neck vertebrae or disks. The rupture of these tissues impinges on the spinal nerves causing extreme pain.
The similar motion of the head forward does not cause similar problems as the chin stops the hyper-extension.
Lateral forces cause a different problem due to the brain sloshing about in the skull.

Dont think its a problem in the back though cos they never came with headrests in the first place, so no harm done.
