Hey guys, some of you may remember me saying that my brother was learning electro-plating. A few of you said you would be interested if I could provide pictures so here you go:
A penny was used as a sample because its small, doesn't take long to plate and holds the charge pretty well.
Versus normal penny after a Nickel dip followed by Chrome dip, finished with a quick buff. (Dipped in both, Nickel first for a stronger, shinier finish)

Closer picture of the penny after Nickel dip followed by Chrome dip and a quick buff up.

Pictures are a bit poor due to be taken with a Camera Phone but they're clear enough to get the idea. If you are interested in a plating service these following materials will be available: Nickel, Chrome, Gold, Silver. Drop me a PM and I will send you details. If you want higher res pictures I will try and get some with the Digital Camera OR I can send you a sample of your own.
Thank you
Looks good mate. I don't have anything to be made shinier at present. :(
Mind how you go. http://www.24carat.co.uk/defacingcoinsframe.html lol

It's a 5p, fix lol
Looks pretty good but have you got any bigger items i.e engine parts.
Ahem, this is verging on advertising a trading service for which you'd need a trade account :p

Ah didn't know that Jack =/ (waits for Nazi ban) It took about 5 minutes all together and will be plating a rocker cover as soon as we can get hold of a bigger electrode and make a better dipping tank. Will be getting a proper buffing wheel too for the bigger parts not just a rag and some polish xD Cheers for the comments

Would be very interested in seeing the rocker.
Many moons ago there used to be a product on QVC lol You used to put it in the sink, it was a metal plate. Then fill the sink with water and put in this solution i.e. gold plating solution and it would plate anything.
Obviously what you are doing Nathan is a bit more involved :)

Like I said before, if you aren't sure I can send you your own little sample to have a closer look at the finish etc because I don't know when he will be getting the bigger electrodes. Shouldn't be too long though. Also forgot to mention I believe he said plastic can be done too =]

Aha there's a suprise comming soon when royal mail pull their finger out. Also gold is pretty expensive so probably won't be doing full pieces of my own but if anyone wants gold their more than welcome providing we see the $$ to cover the materials.

Ok so had a bit of a blast with a few bigger pieces tonight and decided to show you a few pics that were took after my Rocker cover and Spark plug covers were plated. Baring in mind at the moment everything is being HANDBUFFED until we can find a suitable buffing mop for the grinder or the likes of. So on with pictures:
Nickel dip, followed by Chrome dip and a quick hand buffing (lol) versus untouched crappy Spark plug cover:

On with the Rocker cover, we decided to get it done as quick as possible so weren't able to buff and polish it as much as we liked but it is still being rubbed away at now :thumb: Oh and we only plated half of it (up until the OHC as 1. there were a few impatient people lol and 2. I have something in order for that bit)
Some pic whoring is in order:

Pictures really don't do these justice (must get a better camera :tard:) and as soon as we have a decent buffing mop I will whack a few more pictures up. PM if interested and I can get something plated and sent out to you if you would like as a sample. :thumb:
Cheers.
is it possible to plate someting that is anodoised?
