Hopefully my new project will be of interest to the racers and track day guys and girls on here.

I've been racing an Escort Cosworth for the last 5 years, and it went from being a 300bhp rally car, through various stages, to the point it is now - with nearly 500bhp, a 6 speed sequential gearbox, big diffs, 330mm 6 pot brakes and loads of other trick bits, specifically built for hillclimbing and sprinting.

When it's running well it's awesome, but it has not been very reliable, and costs a small fortune to run.

So, after lots of thought I have made the decision to sell it, and it goes to the new owner next week.

I wanted to continue racing but this time in a purpose built race car, and after looking at lots of options, I have taken the plunge and bought this;

It's a motorcycle engine, Suzuki Hayabusa and built by 'Extreme Engines' (200bhp).

I will get some more photos of under the skin when I go and collect it next week.

Can't wait until the weather improves and I can try it out.

It's set up for circuit racing at the moment, so it will need a bit of tinkering to make it more suited to hillclimb courses.

If I enjoy it, and it looks like being a competitive proposition, my plan is to turbocharge it, anything between 300 and 600 bhp is possible with these Haybusa engines (it's just a question of cash!).

It's 450kg, and I'm hoping I will be able to shave a bit of weight from that (but not much).

I want to keep it useable for track days, and it would be nice to make it road legal (as Radical did with the SR3). But I suspect that will be more bother than it's worth.

Spot on. Once you have it handling how you like, it will be awesome. Do you know what other cars are competing in the same class in your area?

I concentrate on the Gurston Down hillclimb championship in Wiltshire (not at all local to me, but it was when I lived in Bournemouth!).

In the same class there's an OMS SC-1 (1600 Hayabusa), plus another ADR, the later model ADR3 with a 1500 Hayabusa, so I'm going to be rather outgunned until I can get more power.

There's also a variety of saloon cars which get lumped into the same Class by virtue of their modifications.......a Mk.2 Escort with a C20XE, a Morris Minor with a Lancia Integrale engine etc.

No, not yet. I will probably do a couple of race meetings in it with a 'For Sale' sign in the window.

I haven't got the money to buy the ADR if I don't sell the Cossie, so that will have to go!

I do love the Cossie, but I wanted to be using it, not mending it all the time.

It's time for a change, I've raced and rallied tin tops for the last 20 years (apart from a brief flirtation with a Westfield), so it will be fun to try something built specifically for racing and without compromises.

Unfortunately the man selling the ADR changed his mind and decided to keep it.

So with my Escort Cosworth sold, I've been looking for another race car, and have now bought this;

.....A Westfield with an all-steel 2 litre Ford Duratec engine, producing 274bhp at the wheels, via an Elite sequential gearbox.

When I get chance I will post up a new thread with all the details, as I know a lot of PNG people were interested in my previous Westfield.
