Alternator problem??

My dad's 1.8 expression has developed a fault, he started it up this morning and the battery light won't go out, and it glows brighter when you rev it up. Is the alternator at fault? A few people have said its likely but apparently theres a 70amp one and a 90amp one, the alternator looks quite a bit different to the one fitted on my 20seh, can anyone tell me what alt it will need?

How many connections has it got on the back? you tested the output with a multimeter?

I had this after Changing my Alt, the bolt had slipped a bit so the belt was a tiny bit loose

Not sure, and no, belt is nice and taught though.

Check the voltage over the batt using a multimeter.

the alt is 99% certainly knackered.

Diode pack is probably knackered on the alt
