lol. Bear with me...

I am short sighted and occasionaly wear glasses for driving. This is my first and only pair which I've had a couple of years.

I've never been a fan of the high shine finish but they were the best I could find at the time blah blah.So I'm wanting to respray (lol) them in a matt black of some description, maybe even that slightly rubberised interior finish a lot of new cars have. lol

Lenses out and arms off and I want to 'colour code' the logo so there's no masking to be done. :thumb:lol

What should I use to key the plastic surface, 1200, 1500?

Also I will probably end up doing them in plastic primer and Hammerite BBQ matt black spray. used it before (albeit on car parts) and it seems durable and offers a good finish. Or maybe straight Plasticote stuff if they do matt.

If it doesn't work out I'll get new jam jars, but it's gotta be worth a go.

If there's a better matt paint to use then I'm all ears, also what's the deal on matt lacquer? As the finish needs to be fairly durable obviously

There's been some ghey projects on here in the past but I think I win. :wtf::)

Cheers - and laugh away. lol

Ohh actually I'll keep an eye (eye eye) on this thread.... I want some new glasses and cant find any in the style and colours I like.

I'd imagine a rub down with 1200 would suffice, make sure they arent painted already. Might be wise to go for something like acrylic primer from a model shop, paint and then some sort of acyrlic matt laquer. Atleast it wont react with the plastic.

Ah. Good shout on the model primer Stu. :)

They are already painted, you can see that the hinges are transparent. Surely it shouldn't matter if I'm keying the surface?

I'll have to look into this matt lacquer business. I don't know if I can stomach standing in line with the nerds whilst they chat about tyre compounds and chassis settings though. lol

buy online then fanny :p

you might get a paint reaction if they used some fancy paint etc (hence the acrylic suggestion as that seems fairly reaction proof)

would just rubbing them with wire wool or similar not take the shine off and do what you want?

I took the shine off with a red scotch pad. I never had any wet and dry above 320 and forgot to get it when out lol.
Arms scotched, frame untouched

lol

Good scotch down, or rub with 1000 or more

few coats of plastic primer, i would give like 3 or more just to make sure, cos if yougo through the hassle of painting them and it ends up flexing and cracking the paint, its better to be safe than sorry.

Then id just put loads of matte paint on and not lacquer it, if it ends up coming off then try and get some of that matte lacquer.

Liam your crazy lol

No need lol. It's done.

The paint booth. Ideal TBH. Cut the bottom out of a beyond gay box and then access both sides using the lid as the 'back. :/

Finished. No lacquer. I'll do them again once I can be arsed. One of the primer coats didn't set well lol. They're still fine though.
