Time started this thread 9.01amlol

Ive booked the first week off in the new year so thought i would show a thread with some pictures of my project wich seems to allways be on going!

I bought my nova back in early 2007 off a friend of mine who resprayed it in nissan rasberry red, hence my user name... when i got the nova it was in goodish condition apart from a slight ding in the o/s/r quater panal and the usual tiny bubble of rust! THEN some old bat reversed into it offside rear quater and bumper outside the ex gf house so then went down the insurance route 3rd party not my own! they wanted to give me £250 for it i told them nicely no thanks i sent them some pictures then they offerd me £750 cat c write off! then thats when it went to the body shop.
Originally it was like this

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/27102007038.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/27102007035.jpg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/27102007036.jpg

i went shoping around a few bodyshops and this one called SARACEN SPRAY TECH interested me alot and seemd good for the money he was wanting! they was allready doing a nova aswell!!

so then i chose mazda william blue they gave it gift of gab saying yeah we will plate up that arch up blabla. SOOO after 4months got it back then it looked like this!

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/16102008055.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/16102008056.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/16102008061.jpg

unfortunatly i have no in between pics of when it was getting done.

after a month of haveing it back it bubbled on the rear arch!!
he said he plated it clearly not! so it went back exactly one year ago today after ear bashing and twisting he said yeah bring it back. then about 5months down the line he said its inner arches are like traceing paper with rust i thought great! do your job properly next time! so i went and bought a donar car A 1.2 SWING 1993 1 lady owner from new 67,000 miles absolutly mint! so it got stripped then taken down there just as the shell!

so its back there and well look at these pics!! he had the windscreen out cuz he said it wasnt mine they put another one in when it was there! i thought the cheek! so it was outside in the pissing rain interior geting the weather!!
then i went up there swearing at him he then immediatly put it undercover in a barn! could of done that ages ago!!so its sitting there like this at the moment and the swing is inside rubbed down they still havent done my strengthening plates yet!!

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/22122009046.jpg

That is cling film or plastic sheeting wich eventually got a hole init as you can see!!

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/22122009049.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/22122009048.jpg all gsi seats are for sale not in great condtion though ive now bought buckets so the new one will be striped inside.

Stopping for cuppa time 9.40am

ive also well not really me but my mate whos corsa got in total vauxhall 2008 white corsa gsi c20xe with throttle bodies 250bhp has rebuilt me another engine with some slight mods aswell ive spent just over £1100 on the engine so should be good :thumb:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e85/Greys-red-gti/DSC00771.jpg

ill get some more pictures up soon of the donar and work being done hopefully. im hopefull it should be out and done by april may time!!! cross those fingers and toes for me! and i appoligise for my spelling!

Looking good mate. The colour looks ideal on a Nova. It's a Primera shade isn't it? There's barely any Nissans in that colour let alone Nova's. lol

I'd have welded around the turrets in the bay and the seam that join the chassic legs to the bulk head.

Liked the red it started off as.

ive come to a bit of a standstill with my build   i havnt driven my car for 18months nearly and loosing the will to carry on ive got a few problems but its down to the BOSS of the bodyshop where the nova is....

problem 1) ive got bubbling of rust on my front slam pannel (bottom osf corner near cross member) all i can do here i think is ask him to do it yet again  i took the bumper off and was horrified to see it.

Problem 2) They decided to snip the fuel lines off the new shell and brake lines so now i have to ask him to sort this as he should of left them on or taken them off nicely! so i need new brake lines and fuel lines fitted to it!!

ive got everything ready to go in and get the poxy thing done. ive wasted so much money its unreal at this place! any help or advice or something would be appreciated and a spirit boost.

Im even starting to think just buy them myself and get someone to fit them but i dont know what im buying so that is possibly problem 3.

I dont know really where you stand on this but surely he is in the wrong bigtime, as he is not completing the job properly to which you have payed him to do!!. Did you have a written contract to what jobs he was specifically going to do etc.
What garage is it btw. Feel free to name and shame so other people dont have to deal with this goon!

SARECEN SPRAY TECH owner is DAVID MANNING

Yeah i went to another bodyshop to see what they thought and wrote a list on a whole side of a4 piece of paper. gave them to him then he tried to slimeball him self out of a few of them. He said £2200 was a shallow price wich i paid him. then i payed him another £1350 to rebuild it again and start on the new shell i bought. its sitting there looking half done with all the bits ready to go on and in!

i went over there today made no point of looking at me or saying anything so i thought to myself im not going to bother trying to speak to him so i went and spoke to my mates dad who now works there and he said ...... is away tomorrow so i will sort your fuel lines and brake lines out. i do have very little faith though. so they need doint my skirts need to be put on my number plate light holder needs spraying as that has been forgotton about to put the bumper on my door handles and new key locks. F*** knows where the bolts are to put to the front bumper.

i could go on and on but dont know what to do anymore tried everything i cant be arsd to go through tradeing standards so will have to wait it out.

its got to me this much i want it running and done then sell it.

I was speaking to a parts manager i know at drive vauxhall near me ANDY CLAIRS he is a major boost in confidence he does rebuilds restoration parts anything from nova to senator, chevette, carlton, manta blabla he said he would sort it and give me a quote with what i want doing.

Ill let you know what happens tomorrow when i go over there to hopefully be surprised.

IF anyone else can help or advise even a boost of confidence would be great

THANKS  :( :thumb: (p.s i cant spell very well lol )

Take any parts that need painting into the painters & kindly ask them to finish what they missed/forgot. Explain there are still some areas on the shell not upto expectations or how they promised the finish will be & tell them you will be bringing the car in for these to be rectified when you have finsihed building it, which will be delayed due to them unsympathetically removing the brake & fuel lines (your property).

Putting the new lines in is not difficult & tbh a good idea really seeing as they will be nearly 20 yeras old & now you will be asking more of them with an XE under the bonnet.
Its a nice looking car, dont chuck in the towel now. Buy some copper brake pipe & the correct unions, get a flaring tool & make up the lines, it's as easy as that. Likewise some 8mm copper pipe from B&Q will be good for the fuel pipes, you may need the rubber end tails & unions from a scrapped Vectra or Omega to screw into the XE fuel rail.

chop chop.

The best thing i can advise is to cut your losses with that firm mate and get it the feck away from them!..

I'm sure if you put a post in gen chat on here/or club, asking for some help (paid,or voluntary) that some of the regular members will help out, as it's a sorry state of affairs you have got your self in, and it needs some good will from some one, some where to pull this into line ,if i could do something my self i would mate! BUT im afraid i wont be much use, unless i have any parts you might need?

RITE! pipes ive sorted off my mate andy at vauxhall and unions then bodyshop are fitting them for me aparently! also including my scurts mirrors and locks to it! i have a few questions though!

LMF?? they quoted me £216 for grooved discs and green pads (front 288mm) has anyone got any better ideas on where to get brakes from? if so speak up!?

Also my rad out of the old nova does not fit due to the rad haveing a extra peg on the bottom of it as the 1200 rad had only the one. shall i just start drilling another hole? dont really want to as i will be drilling through the metal strengthning plate on cross member? if im not makeing anysense i can show you pictures that are on this thread.

needing a centre cap bolt for cessaro wheels the one with 3 pin key. just neeeding the bolt not the key if anyone has one spare?

Sorry i ment two feet on my rad out of prvious nova which fitted fine. But this rad im putting into the 1.2 shell wont fit as there are not 2 holes for feet to sit into on shell.there is only the one on the shell.hence why i said drilling? Make any sense? Well to carry on from the electrical post i think the problem has been solved by moving the the battery live closer to the battery and connecting it at the first gang point.

Anyway with all the fluids in and no leaks, always a good start, i pulled the fuel pipes off the fuel rail and connected together with a piece of clear hose and then connected a battery straight to the pump,

The reason for doing this the tank that Grey had in the car was from a C12NZ which had the intank pump. This i've removed and replace with a piece of hose and the pump is now in the correct GTE/GSI place on the rear chassis rail.

Now i didn't think for a moment the the pump would be able to suck the fuel up from that distance but i was wrong and it seems the pump has more suck than a cheap back street soho hooker.

So with everything re connected the motor fired up after a couple of attempts it fired, we won't mention the reason it didn't start straight away.

She fired up and sat at a steady idle, OP good and battery charge good and even showed 6mph on the digi dash as the ns wheel was spinning and still no leaks.

With that done i tidied up the rear end wiring right upto the bulkhead and took the engine loom back out to do the final tape up.

Grey has got some pics and i think a video clip which i'm sure he will upload when he gets his A8se into gear:thumb:

cheers

can you explain how you modded the pump, did you remove the gubbins form the underside and lead a pipe as a pickup into the swirl pot inside?
if so i did this and used correct fuel pipe and over a period of time it went funny and and restricted my fuel flow so i replaced with a correct mpi pump from a nexia to be precise,
glad you got to the end of it and its running thats the main thing

iceni
25-01-11, 05:08 PM
used 10mm id copper pipe with very short rubber connectors at each end, got a photo somewhere i'll post it up, if i can.

I have while the car is stripped out put another feed back to the orginal pump connector on top of the tank so if need be Grey can run two pumps.

At the moment its capped off and tucked away so we'll see how things go

Cheers

the bottom rubber is just there to space the difference in dia between the pipe and the pan filter, even then i had to thin the pipe down to make a tight fit

Not sure if i've enough post counts to put pics up but if i have i'll post one tonight and do some updating

Well got a bit more done over the weeknd but spent most of Saturday Morning over at the bodyshop as i've some work to do on a Lotus Carlton in a few weeks.

Grey brought over one of his seats and judging by the fit i think i need to lose a few pounds. So passanger seat in to check the runners all fit

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/testfitofSeat.jpg

Next job was to fit the tail gate, rear lamps and the interior trim panels and the tailgate took most of Saturday afternoon to get correct and got the rear bumper on.

Got the wheels on and dropped to the ground to set the front wheel tracking and castor angle

Photos a bit dark but the tracking isn't to far out and it was done after the camber

[IMG]http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/Settiingupthetracking.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/Trackingthatwilldofornow.jpg

For setting up the camber i used my digi level. This is the first time i've used it for this job and it seems to work ok so i'll knock up some steel plates for a later date. Went the car goes to have a proper four wheel setup we'll see how close it was
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/Camberangleagainthatwilldofornow.jpg

With that done the car was back on stands and wheels of to bleed the brakes which i'll do again before we finally finish.

Got a man coming over this week to fit an electrical box but i'll say now no more on that and there will be no pics so with any luck i should get the rest of the panels on and start to finish up, now hope to be in for MOT by the end of the month

Cheers

Well its time for an update. cars is now back on its wheels although there have been a few problems

The dash gave a bit of a headache as whoever took the dash out first time round decided they could not be bothered to take the headlamp switch out to get to the screw underneath it so they just pulled the panel out and used tin snips to cut the metal bracket off the dash, not helpfull but sorted within an hour or so.

All panels and doors back on and central locking and power windows working. MP3 connection socket and extra power socket added to the window switch panel and all the dash section re-painted again in black to give a panio black style finish.

Engnie fires up on the button but is running rich when hot. Have already replaced the ECU temp sensor with a new one during the build so i'm going to swap out the air mass to see if that helps.

Also have a sticky air bypass valve which decided to keep the engine revs high a couple of time and the gear links is shagged and fell apart while reversing out of the work shop

The linkage is NLS by GM and there is nothing showing at any of my twelve hundred plus Obstock and Opel dealers across Europe so it looks like i've got to make a Corse B linkage fit, unless anyone knows a good reason why it can't be done.

A few pics

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/nova136.jpg
Final resting place for the ECU. Tucked up behind the glove box

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/nova141.jpg
Proper Vapour shield on

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/nova150.jpg
Spot the extra switch just incase, Black looks ok and on the inside of the instrument hood i've done that in matt black so there is no glare from the LCD

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/nova149.jpg
LCD dash. Speedo still needs to be check against a Sat Nav to see if we have the correct speed sensor fitted

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/nova145.jpg
The under bonnet shot

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/andyc2411/nova144.jpg
Looks good and i don't think it needs anymore. Only thing i would do if it were mine would be to fit a full GSI interior back in and have the seats retrimmed in blue with black leather oh and Air Con

More shots later once we get the gear linkage sorted and its up on the rams. If anyone has a good linkage kicking around please drop grey a PM

Cheers
