Can anyone help,,,complete noob herelol
Put an amp in yesterday but the battery has run flat overnight.
We wernt sure were the P Cont wire should have gone, we went for the wire with the biggest fuse which already had a connector in place as this made most sense...pic

The wire we have used has a 15amp fuse wereas the other one has only a 1amp:confused:
The only other thing I can think of is it is wired up wrong at the amp...

Have you got an amp wiring kit?
I've seen people wiring their amps up to the main wiring loom like my mate sarah lol
The amp should have a live feed & a remote turn on switch.
On your head unit wiring you should have a remote switch (most are a blue or orange coloured)this wire goes live when you power up your head unit, you need to wire that to the remote switch on your amp.
this gives you some idea....

Ok well I don't seem to have a blue wire? The wire we used is red from the car then orange after the connector,,,the other wire with the the fuse is orange from the car and red after the connector to the radio...so possibly that one then?
have you wired your amp direct from the car battery?
I think its a matter of looking throu the wires on the head unit you have and seeing it you have a spare one that isnt connected.
most will have a: remote, mute, illuminate & assesories wire spare.

if you dont have a blue amp wire at the stereo then if the orange is a switched live then you could hook the blue wire to that then the amp will go off with the ignition off.

Thats the orange from the car? Not the orange it is currently on I take it you mean. Is there a simple way of testing if its a switched live? (I have no manual for cd player etc). Cheers.
Btw it is wired exactly as the diagram from annie shows.:thumb:
the wire will come from the headunit its self.
you can test it all you need is a 12v bulb & earth, hold the + of the bulb to the wire you believe is live ( it should light). then turn unit off to see if the wire is no longer live & the bulb is out.

1st, The only thing I can think of for now until you figure out what wires what is put a switch in the line you have used as your remote turn on. this will at least stop your battery going flat.
2nd, run the remote from your ignition so your amp only turns on when you start your car.
wait awhile & im sure someone else may have a better solution. :)

it looks like you have it on the red wire in your pic. have you got a multimeter?

Cheers annie you've been more than helpful:thumb: Am going to local motorfactors now to get some electrical supplies so will pick up a switch etc.
What make/model is the head unit?

lol no one will be able to help with that then lol
What Annie says, sounds like you have the remote connected to a constant live, if your amp has a power light, you'll probably find its lit even with no key in the ignition

the 2 fuses at the stereo are a live all the time and a switched live so swap it to the other one and its sorted.

Well I tried it on the other wire and the headunit kept turning itself on and off:confused:
So its back as it was but with a switch in the remote cable (which is actually pretty handy cus my dad drives my car occasionally with my mother so they can turn it off) aslong as I remember to turn it off at the switch when I've finishedlol or I may end up with another flat battery:mad:
May have another look/go at it tomorrow.

sounds like youve given it a permanent live, which will cain the battery overnight. you need to give it a switched live.
i fitted one to a mates car and i just t'd into the switched live from the igntion block, (peeled the wire back a bit and soldered the amp wire to it) that way it only gets juice when the key is in position 2 (ignition) as per normal running.
he ran it like that for a year, didnt have any probs on the battery front, no popped fuses or burning wires.
if u do it this way, u can find the right wire with a simple light tester (can build one yourself out of 2 wires and a bulb if u dont have one, helps out big time when your looking for an earth or power)
its a bit time consuming taking the dash shroud out and kick plate plastics to run the wire neatly, but once its done, its done :thumb:

you can do the above, it would need to go on the thick black, as the thick red is the constant live with the ignition being the switch obviously

Thats what I was trying to say but in english lol
Still strange why he hasn't got a thin blue wire on the back of the hu. How old is it?
