Right, i should be picking up a GTE which is a "bit" rusty. I got plans for it, which are being kept hush hush for now. Not sure if i will make it ready for an XE or the 1.6

But for now im going to rebuild my XE

i hope you marked the conrod caps before throwing them on the floor,
as each cap is individual to that rod the rods are cast then cut so every rod and cap are unique

Bubba

ratchet n extension are random ones lol.

all the caps are numbered 1-4 anyway

i have new rods and pistons to go in. so new bearings and bolts will be used and i did just bolt the caps back in for the time being.

It wont be hush hush for long, not until i get hold of the shell.

Bubba
31-12-09, 03:12 PM

Am i right in thinking this is the GTE thats got front end damage and a smashed winscreen?

Oh and that is also as rottern as a pear... infested with maggots... in the sun?

not that i know of...its got a smashed windscreen and erm might be a bit rusty

hopefully picking her up on sunday :D :D :D woo get to practice my welding skills and grinding and outragous bodging..now question

shall i use bog standard steel sheet (dc01), which gets surface rust in our warehouse after a few months, or shall i use zintec (galvanized) sheet which is a bit heavier but well, galvanized.

tbh i dont think its going to be too bad, might try and replace the whole front panel. passanger door is all good :D no rot on the bottom, delocked and dehandeled. driver door is fubar MIGHT be able to salvage it, id like to as it has very little rot on the bottom. think that might be a case of smash out the smoothing if i can and re-handle it.

Need to ge the engine out as well, see if there is any bad rot in the engine bay. there is 1 small hole in the floor but still going to give it a full going over underneath

since i plan to pickup it, backend will be welded alot anyway. also going to be lookin for the wide arches but that wont be untill ive got all the rest sorted and i have the money.

Dave.
07-02-10, 11:38 PM
That back end is VERY rottern! the front end looks like its took a fair old whack too

Id be tempted to strip it of the useable bits, and find a better base, as that looks too far gone :(

Bubba
07-02-10, 11:47 PM
what useable bits??? its a shell with an engine thats not been heard running :P even if i do decided its too far gone, perfect scrap shell to practice welding and a practice run for a pickup chop thing. so if i do cock it up, im not exactly loosing out

The Simps
08-02-10, 12:03 AM
I'm suprised you had to pay for it tbh! I know what you're saying as a practice but you're better off with a clean shell and at least you can practice your welding on stuff thats useful like strengthening, cage, chassis etc not rot repair.

Bubba
08-02-10, 12:07 AM
well, i paid £200 for that, an XE and F20. I have got the front bumper, a box of random parts, mint bootlid and few other parts...he said 190 for the engine n box and 10 for that. but i gave him 180 for the engine box n parts then 20 for that today

and im also going up to my mates place as he has a load of nova spares sat in his garage that he asked if i wanted to have a rummage though before he got rid...so ill post up parts if i get any and also list bits too see if anyone else wants bits, bit of a waste throwing it all

Bubba
09-02-10, 07:08 PM

window frames :thumb:

i have window frames...i wont need them ;) although one has a dent :(

I had a look underneath the car earlier in the light, the actuall floor n front chassis legs are good. need to give them a good clean but it doesnt look too bad. There is a small hole under the driver seat.but that seems about it.

pics of bits
clocks, also got 6dial ones but they need new plastic stuff thats on the back

how much for them clocks if they fit mk1

Bubba
11-02-10, 10:47 PM
i think they are mk2 clocks :( put them beside the mk1 ones and they are slightly bigger

General Baxter
11-02-10, 10:48 PM
astra ?

Iain
11-02-10, 10:49 PM
Sorry but I'd find a new shell to start with - it'll be a lot better in the end instead of a patchwork shell that'll end up being. As Simps said, you could spend time improving a half decent shell (stitch welding etc) instead of getting that one back to a half decent condition.

If you stick at it, fair play - I look forward to seeing you attack it!

Bubba
11-02-10, 10:56 PM
astra ?

no idea, ill fly up tomorrow after work and get a photo of them beside the mk1 nova ones. were the mk2 clocks a different shape? same as the mk2 astra ones? seeing as its easy as pie to fit digidash in a mk2 but a pain in a mk1

henny
11-02-10, 10:59 PM
un repairable!

vaughanmc

Aye they look like Mk1/Mk2 Astra clocks or maybe even Mk2 Cavalier clocks ?

cricky my shell went to the scrappers on the weekend cause i couldnt afford to do what i wanted.

only needed 2 patches of welding.

Anyhow all the best with it mate

Bubba
12-02-10, 06:00 PM
well after bashing it with a hammer i do believe im guna rip the engine out...dash out...rear beam off...brakes etc...n scrap her :( think the passanger door can be saved too.

vaughanmc
12-02-10, 06:25 PM
Good choice :) Might be worth keeping the ID ?

Bubba
12-02-10, 06:29 PM
