ok so this is what happened

left the hospital at 11pm windows were frozen so i started the car then scraped the windows
temp guage didt move by the time i had done that but because it was -10 outside i didnt hink much of it

drove about 1-2 miles and the temp guage was nearly in the red

pulled over and the header tank was steaming, the heaters werent working either

let the steam dissapear and topped it up with water and anti freeze (yes it did have anti freeze in to start with)

the header tank filled up so i sarted the car to let it bleed, i squeezed the pipes to help it but the big one from the the top of the radiator took ages to fill up

the water kept going up and down and pissing out, i kepttoping it up but it wouldnt bleed

after a while it started to make some funny noises from the header tank as if it was boiling

the temp guage in the car only sat at 1/4 during this

will it be the water pump away? the top radiator pipe dosent really fill up an the radiator feels really hot

the pipes on the heater matrix and stone cold as well

its 1.0 btw

follow the top water hose from the rad on left hand side when lookin at engine, goes in behind the cambelt cover

where the top hose connects to the water pump is also where the thermostat is located

not to get at the stat, you just undo the big hose on top of it & the stat is clipped in the housing. test it by hanging it on a string into a glass jug of boiling hot water. if it moves then it is ok, if not, then bin it.

yeah as said take the big hose off on the drivers side of the engine and the stat is there.
