Setting my gear linkage up tonight on the nova and i cant seem to get 5th

I'm sure i read somewere that on a 4 speed mk1 there is some mod that you have to make to the gearstick area on the chassis to be able to get 5th, anyone any ideas?

lift the gear gaiter up and there is a white nodule (like a little square block) on the gearstick half way down, cut it off and then set it up as per the haynes manual and should be spot on :thumb:

sorry to jump on your thread, i've read somewhere about using a drill bit to align the linkage is this correct?? and if so where do you stick the drill bit??

down the back of the box is a tiny plug, just above the drive shaft, i think you use a 5mm drill bit in the hole, then undo the linkage joint bolt, get someone to move the gear stick into netural untill the drill bit gose to drop though, then do the link bolt back up!?!?! i think that how it go's??? make sure the plastic sleaves on the linkage's are all ok though because mine had fallen out and i couldnt get 2nd proply,

near the white plug ontop of the gearbox selector housing there is a plastic plug just to the right and it will be facing in the direction of the passenger seat ,you pull out then put the drill bit in while moving the linkage about until it slots in good, then get a mate to hold the gear lever in correct position and tighten it all up. job done

Ha beat me to it ! doh

Ive not had to cut the white plastic lug off an ive just fitted an xe into my 1.2 4speed kreg think the linkage would just need tweaking.:)
