W registration black Vectra GSi 2.5 version (198bhp RR'd), 90k miles, 2 owners, VGC, Irmscher goodies included - £2.8k

V registration Skyline R34 2.6 N/A motor (200bhp), completely standard, dark silver, 1 UK owner, 68km's but been changed to UK clocks, speed limiter removed, grade 4.0 import (VGC basically) been SVA'd & UK registered already - £5.8k

Both the same on the insurance, both similiar running cost/MPG.

The Nissan will cost a bomb to repair if it breaks, Vec wont. The Vec is simple DIY repair via breakers. The Nissan isn't.

Which one & why.

Both the same to insure? WTF?
A vec GSi isnt exactly quick either, but how well do those NA R34s go??

Has it got to be one of those 2??

I voted Vec as I've always wanted one and that sounds like the one to have and you'll still have three grand in your **** pocket

Yeah choice of just those 2 Ad, Ive been offered one but very tempted by the other lol

Yep, both £718 F/C thats also including my van on the policy.

Apparently the N/A R34's are still fooking quick cars. The Vec is my brother in laws/sisters but they've offered it me as there buying a Stagea very shortly.

The Vec is a pretty darn fast car if Im honest for a 2 tonne barge.

Ive looked into the resale of both, the 34 obviously is worth considerably more. The only reasons Ive opted for an N/A is purely the running cost & insurance on a R34 GTR (£2.2k on its own policy)

Nissan would be nice, but you'll always be wanting a GTR... which is why I've never bought a GTS-T (albeit R33) even though I've been offered a few

Adam

Id go for the Vec then tbh.

Cheap spares etc

I voted Vec GSI, 'cos I miss mine like hell! :(

Cheaper to fix, and the noise is awesome. :thumb:

Apparently the 26DET motor slots straight into the NA shell, an there the same price as a LET. Thats whats really tempting me...

Thing is right, with the Vec, its been in the family now a good 5 years or so, so its nothing new to me, ive done plenty of work on it here & there, drove it countless times & clocked 137 on the satnav in it, so its nothing new to me at all.

Surely for £5.8k theres much better cars out there than a non turbo skyline...

Probably is, but I wouldnt say no to a N/A R34 let alone a GTR one. For the same money you can Porsche Boxter's, V8 Range Rovers & top notch BMW's. But there not exactly rare nor exotic...

Hell if I had use of garage Id get an Evo of some sort, but Ive not got a garage I can use.

I've often looked at skylines but i just dont think you will be happy enough not having a turbo, saying that though ive never driven one. i suppose having it sat outside your house would look just as cool though lol

I always check out cars for around £5k and if you want something rare or exotic you will always be wanting nearer to £10k :(

PS. i would get an evoV and just risk parking it out of a garage. aslong as its alarmed up and insured it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Mike
26-12-09, 07:15 PM
Ive been in an auto N/A R33 some years ago an that went like fcukery for what it was. That was just standard motor with a K&N rolling on 18's & Tien coilovers.

With regards to potential theft, Ive had 2 motors stolen in recent years, so until I get a garage or my rents move out & I get the house (which ever comes first) I wont buy one.

Its not bad where I live, far from it, its just the neighbouring estates within 5 miles are reasonably bad areas. Next door have had issues with there Bentley an sold it, across the road AFAIK still has a Rari but its tucked up in his garage behind iron gates & a garage door.

Dont know what to do really :( Id presonally prefer the 34, as the Vec is nothing new to me even thought it doesnt belong to me lol

The NA is only 80bhp short of a standard GTR thought. And its not as if Id be giving it beans everywhere, unlike I do with the Vec lol purely for the noise :)

I chose the Veccy, however I was indecisive, it would be cheaper etc to repair the Veccy, however nissans rarely break!

I think that the veccy would be the lesser of two evils here.

seems like you want the skyline to me, if you got bored you could sell it on and go get your evo? or put that engine you want in?

I voted for the Veccy as i've had many problems with Nissans

as much as i liked my veccy gsi i would go for the nissan as the veccys are dog slow on pick up and just drink fuel.
Did sound nice tho.

Mike

We've managed to get the Vec down to 8mpg on the LCD screen lol so yea they proper drink fuel alright lol

mike, if you believe an imported skyline had spent all of its life as std spec, then you are deluded.... ALL skylines in japland get the big tuning stuff put on them, then just before the jap big mot test type thing, they have it all taken off & the std stuff put back on so they can sell them to mugs in the uk... ever wondered where all the s/hand tuning goodies for skylines come from??? probably from the car you are looking at

buy a bmw or similar.

Mike
27-12-09, 10:46 AM
^good point lol

Dont want a BMW either lol they had an E30 with an M3 engine in before the Vec lol compelte with a burberry interior haha lol and a lot of my friends drive E36's :(

Im starting to think more about plan B. Integra.

Theres so many fecking cars thought. I just want anything thats a 3 door an not GM or VAG but has a hefty lump of power.

Whats the problem with buying a modded JDM car? They look after their cars a lot more than we do over here.

R34 will pull the ladies. Vec just makes you look like a grandad lol

Both really good ideas.. BUT our house has a Roll on Roll off drive :( so unless its in a garage its a mass pain in backside, like the Nova was when I had that out there :( constant having to moves cars around depending on who was leaving for work first :(

i voted veccy but i would say the price is tooo high..you could get an ST veccy for that money same engine better holding value too.
had my veccy V6 up to 194bhp without too many silly price mods.

I wouldnt say its very high at all. Not considering that last year it had a nigh on £1200 service at a GM dealer, an then £1k worth of brand new GSi rims direct from Vaux in Bristol. Its that standard the VVOC used it & a select few others in a GM photoshoot at Billing this year (apparently according to my sister anyway)

the vec is the right money imo and if there is an st200 at that price show me and ill sell my left testicle to buy it cheapest ive ever seen was 5.5k and it needed work at that

Vec GSi would be my choice. If buying an R34 it would have to be a GTR. Plus the ££££ you will save by buying the Vec you could buy a "toy" lol

W registration black Vectra GSi 2.5 version (198bhp),- £2.8k

V registration Skyline R34 2.6 N/A motor (200bhp)- £5.8k

Which one & why.

Seems odd that the prices are so far apart, so thats in the Vectras favour tbh. However, despite the flaming I would get for this post on any other forum (or non-biased Vauxhall forum), I fecking hate imports & would have the Vectra all day.*

Right, done a bit of searching, found a couple of nearish nice Coupe Turbo's that are potential buys....

Insurance front...

TPFT:

Swinton Insurance £858.23 with £200 excess?

F/C:

Swiftcover £503.94 with a whopping £900 excess!!!!

Just left to call our Sky Insurance guys tomorrow morning now & see what they say on the matter.
