Looking at getting Mrs Hobbit a canon digital slr in the sales, she already has a 35mil canon slr.
My question is, will the lenses off the 35mil fit the digital or is it worth getting a bundle with lenses when we buy the new one?
Any help will be greatly apreciated :thumb:

I too would like to know if lenses off a SLR would fit a D-SLR. My dad has some pretty good Pentax SLR Lenses but unfortunately the camera isn't digital.
Short answer is no unless you get an expensive canon

^ What he said.
1000d is a canny DSLR. Ideal for most needs.
Well she's looking at the 450D or the 500D pretty sure the old one was similar level. Not base spec...
450 certainly isn't full frame. However, it is a damned good camera. You're more than welcome to have a looksee at mine any time you're about up these parts.
Depends on what Lenses she has.
If they are EF or EF-S then they will fit.
The cropped sensor only affects the focal lengths of the lenses. A 100mm lens becomes a 160mm lens when mounted on a cropped sensor camera.
i know nothing about cameras...how much?!?!?! just lookd on ebay
450d is pretty cheap when you compare it to the likes of kit that people like olly H use lol
Canon do quite often do a cashback offer though, got £50 back on mine plus another £28 or so from Quidco. Bargain :)
I shoot with a 40d, I started out with a second hand 350d then upgraded.
To be honest, good photos come from good lenses of technique. Any Canon D-SLR will take beautiful photos.

As said, if they're EF or EF-S lenses they will fit a 450D or 500D. FD (pre around 1990) lenses won't fit.

I'm another 40D user, as is ade. I started out with a 400D which my mrs now uses - my hands are too fat to use the smaller bodies. I completely agree with the lenses comment, dependant on lighting conditions :).

people getting confused with the full frame and crop sensors, where its just to do with the mounts really, i have a canon slr and d slr, my ef lenses fit both, my ef-s only fit the digital, a simple wikipedia check on camera models, but most entry level d'slrs will accept ef and ef's where expensive full frames only accept ef if i remember correctly.
cheers for the replys chaps, will rep who i can :)
if she has a Canon "EOS" 35mm film camera then any lens from the EOS films will fit ALL EOS Digital cameras. The mountings are the same
A Canon "FD" 35mm film camera lens wont fit though and I dont think yuou can buy adapters (although these are old cameras)
With Canon Digital they're ALL EOS and as mentioned you have 2 choices, cropped sensor or full frame.
The cropped sensor will accept ANY EOS lens and these cameras are usually aimed at the majority of us - eg 1000d, 450d, 40d, 50d etc. They also have their own specific lens range called EF-S (Canon) or APS-C if made by Tamron or Sigma.
Lenses witrh EF-S or APS-C cant be used on full frame Canon Digital cameras as the rear of the lens moved into the camera body and will foul on the mirror.
You can also get adapters that allow you to use the older (but seriously superb quality) M42/screw mount lenses made by Carl Zeiss (the old Russian/Eastyern Block countries). They wont communicate with the camera and work in manual mode only but the images are superb - the 50mm "prime" lenses for example can be purchased for £30 off ebay and the adapter is only about a tenner - quality is as good as some of the pro lenses.
For full frame expect to pay over £1000 for body only but you're then in the realms of the pro's...
For best deals ebay FTW...just read the feedback and avoide imports from Hong Kong etc...
The old camera is a EOS 300 with EF lenses
So looks like we will be buying just a digital body, cheers guys :)
