What's wrong with 50 in these conditions? The only place the roads are bad (round here) is housing estates etc, main roads are fine. Unless he was prating about in a housing estate.

nah it was on like an industrial estate where the limit is 50 and the road looked pretty clear so kept it at that then back eng flew out and i was sliding sideways then flicked it back the other way then the other way then smacked the curb

this time of year you need to gauge the road conditions and drive accordindly.

Many years ago I used to be out in the SR in the snow regularly, but she was fitted with snow tyres, and I never got stuck or slid off the road, could put her just about anywhere, not saying I didn't come close a few times;). Used to have snow stuck on the snow plough;)

I got caught out on her 185/60/14 Goodyear NCT's and the transformation was remarkable:tard: no directional stability at all:eek: never got caught out again!

I can't understand why people go out in such conditions with wide low profile tyres fitted, unfortunately asking for trouble.

I was watching a bloke the other day driving his Merc 500CL convertible on 4" of snow, it was comical:roll: 5litre V8 and RWD

You also have to drive to suit the conditions! Sorry old man talkinglol

If your going out in these conditions "be prepared" sorry I am an old Boy Scoutlol

Hope you Are OK and hope your car isn't damaged too much

Get some winter tyres are my advice.

Rated to well into minus figures, designed to grip in wet & slushy conditions, tbh it wouldnt be silly if it was the law to run them from December to March.

Another injured Nova :( . How many that does make it?

You really do need to adjust your driving when in the snow, not saying go 5mph but you need to take more time. Drive in higher gears, slow down using downshifts and braking gently much earlier, increase the distance from the car in front.

The wife who is originally from the mediteranean think we (in Britain) are crazy for not using tyre chains in the snow.

Well said. My nova was ernough of a handful in the snow with the XE, the V6 is just daft, plus being FWD makes it silly. Hence why I use the GT4 in the snow, mmm 4WD goodness.

And why is it when people smack them (novas) in snow, why is it ALWAYS the "back end went out"? On a FWD car? Do you lot all drive with the handbrake wrenched on at the slightest hint of frost? lol

My daily hack is a proper car...

It's looking like I may have to run these damn things longer than intended as I've lost the locking key. :roll:lol

Keep it shiny side up kids and judge your speed to the conditions as said and you'll be fine.

You may laugh, but back in my day they were low profileslol

They are still useless in snow being my point, so any bigger/lower profile are even worse;)

GLS lol. Close. No heated seats for me. :(
The welded diff makes up for it though. God DAMN it's a pig to drive sometimes, bouncing about all over the place. As you may remember from yours, they're meant to be comfortable. lol

re the tyre chains - my wifes dad was talking about these yesterday - "the problem with the road chaos and the snow" he says, "is nowt to do with the gritters - its more cars on the road, more impatient idiots and no one using snow chains".

He used to be a doctor working in the highlands and owned a jag with snow chains...never got stuck in untreated roads!

Got me to thinking how my Nova's rear arches would cope with snow chains!

lol
