Hi guys, soon will be breaking down my engine for cleaning and looking to paint it, what paint is suitable to use on it? Pics of your painted engines for ideas would be nice too.
Also as a side note, what would I need for the rebuilding process? I know about new gaskets, but unsure what else I would need to buy before I start breaking it down. Cheers :thumb:

I mainly used hammerite on my engine block dude, cleaned the cylinder head and degreaser it and painted the rocker cover plug cover etc!
If you try the search function the topics been covered a few times and there's some handy info in there ;)

i cleaned my block down with a wirewheel on a grinder, and my head with degreaser and a toothbrush.
Use VHT SPRAY PAINT ! on your head and cam etc..
USE VHT BRUSH on paint on your block.

^ You can use spray or brush, dont matter as long as you mask things.
No need for VHT eather, i only used it on exhausts.
Normal spray paint sticks fine

Hammeright and spray paint, still fine even with a turbo in front of it.

Its better to brush paint the block because the colour will be much stronger, and better to spray the head because it would be a messy job with a brush.

Benn, what products, if any, did you use to help polish up all the metal bits?

Also mate what was the process of smoothing out your bay? Seam seal it then just normal filler? Or is there more too it.
lol the bay is welded and plated over everything, so as little filler is used as poss. There's quite a bit gone in to it. There is no seam sealer in the bay. I hate it its messy and looks sh*t.
Tek, All metal is sanded alot with different grades of paper, then polished up with a ruff wheel with a grey soap some times use autosol, then a soft head with a light blue soap.

Cheers Benn, thought it was gona be more like metal polish of some sort, seems like you went about it properly :)
If you want it polished there's only one way to do it.

It can, just need a power supply, applicator pen thingy, and the solution stuff.
But even then, you want it polished (well for chrome)

Any ideas as to where I can get the applicator pen thingy and the solution?
