shit ive got the halfords one! shit! hope it works, are they realy that bad! i coudl take it back and get pissed off enough to get my money back maybe..........
I have a halfords one and its fine - my head unit picks up everything!
You need to make sure you have the halfords one with the extra long cable though - otherewise you'll need to get an extension cable
The rubber will come off = best thing to do is find an area where its lose (corners by lights for example and just pull. It'll fit back easily! (keeps shape and is on like a continupus running clip!)
Once removed, carefully peel back the roof lining from the edge of the car (under the rubber seal). best doing this width of the roof. Put hand inside cavity and you might need to peel back the roiof insulartion. If it falls down dont worry its on double sided glue so will stick back up.
Youre best setting the ariel back about 6" from the edge of roof - best thing to do is open hatch and sit ariel on roof to see where it will come. Remember to mark exact centre. Think this is about 24" - not too sure though.
Drill hole in roof (watch the roof lining underneath), seal bare metal then fit ariel. I'd run a small sealant (not silicone sealer) under the bit that sits on the roof and after bolted up seal the underside also.
Run cable to the drivers side of the car down either the B pillar if you can reach - or the C pillar, along side of car (remove rear 1/4 panel) out just behind by the bottom of the B pillar and along under the door edging trim (have to unscrew this to slot it under) then along behind the barpet under the dash into the radio
Sounds like the extra cables are some kind of signal booster. never used one so dont know how this works.
As for removing wing ariel - easiest way is to remove wing, then remove ariel (after removing indicator), then fill hole (epoxy reson a plate on the underside of hole and fill with body filler once set - sand and spray) or use a blanking grommet (easier) - refit wing remembering to reseal it (use proper car mastik not silicone sealer).
To remove wing - see haynes - you'll prob need to remove bumper
Aint life easy!
