Mk1 Astra's - What to look out for??

May be going to look at a mk1 Astra later and just wondering what I should be looking for apart from the obvious? Are there are rotspots? Upgrading my garage (fingers crossed) so should be able to fit it in!

Rust. Everywhere.

iirc they rot in near enough the same places as a nova.

Check sills, boot floor, back panal, arches, rear chassis legs, etc

under the carpet near the pedals.

lift back the carpet, and everything under it... it's 3 layers and a chassisleg there, and the rot from the inside. the can look mint from the underside, but the first signs are inside the car. remove/poke at the sound deading if needed.. you dont want to fix that if it's to rotten. most of that is DIY.
pic from mine, that's the most important area. i had some rust on the passenger side, but luckely it was only the floorpanel. the other layer and the chassisleg wasnt affected yet by the rust.

corners behind the firewall (same area as nova battery tray)
A pillar (top and bodem)
front arches (underside)
edge of slampanel (behind the front indicators, same as nova)
doors
sills
rear arches
rear chassis legs (around that spring holder disk thing, dont know the word)
around the front and rear window rubbers.

my old one had terrible front inner arches, and then these spongy things in the front end of the sills. my mums one had the whole rear quarter fall off in one.

my mate went to buy one and went to tow it away and the whole front end pulled clean off!

sunroof models prone to bad rusting of the A posts
bulkheads
back slam panel tooo....and a bloody nightmare to get hold off!

ow, and another thing... parts are more expensive then nova parts..

new door is 189,- euro. new front wing is 69 euro.
nova front wing... 30 euro..

i dont know about the UK, but here in holland there's a company who has loads of parts for them. iirc the post international.

As above,
If it's a GTE then the bulkhead panel will be going/gone.
If it's a pov spec then the bulkhead will be better.
Sills, inner arches front & rear.
Front panel, headlight surround mainly.
Again if it's a GTE with a sliding sunroof,it'll probably be rusty. Then the seals are rocking horse poo to get hold of.

A few parts are difficult to get hold of but most from the Mk2 will fit mechanically.
