tonight, by chance I came across a means of speeding vista up big style.

Control Panel>SYSTEM>ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS>ADVANCED>PERFORMANCE

then click on the option that says

adjust for best performance

my vista is now running like hell.

Vista is pretty quick on most machines. Feed it some more ram.

Be Arsed Factor; just put a USB stick in and 'ReadyBoost (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/readyboost.aspx)' (tacky name)

Stick a wet finger in a plug socket and the other on the mother board. Do this now.

stop being a cock.

I work with mains electricity, 12 & 24v DC, and auto electrics. I can fix a lot of things, but my vista pc has been the bane of my life since I got it. I have the fast virgin media broadband, but I struggled to download any videos or decent music off the net.

now it works great.

32bit are limited to 4GB, 64bit can eat 8, 16 or 128 depending on what flavour of vista you have

Mowgli, I cant see the download speed being capped by the lack of pc performance, oh and i troll j00 :p

RJ, I only knew that about the 32 bit, 128 gigs of ram

Well, if a pc is running really slow, its processing speed will not allow quick downloads..simples

I had to ditch Win2k when I got my P4 2.8C. Win2k doesn't handle hyper threading so the machine used to stutter :(

I'm still running on PIII.
