Well i am building my nova like it was built around the mid 90s.

and i had an idea, im thinking of putting either a sega megadrive or a playstation 1 inside, and a small lcd screen at the bottom of the dash somewhere.

anyone ever did this before ? im not going to go mad and fibreglass it into the dashboard or anything, What people think of this ?

Sounds good, just keep it hidden, would look good, having the screen in the glovebox, so when you open it, you can play it then?

Was thinking of putting the screen at the bottom of the dash somewhere like infront of the gear stick.

Might make the car get broke into though..

Doubt it, just keep it well secured, as car tvs are about £10 off ebay now, same as stereo's, people cant be assed stealing them!

Amazing idea!!

If you place a screen at the bottom of the dash you could possibly make a cover to hide it?

LEWI007

Could make some sort of cover yeah.

Brains nova - I cant put a cd player, i have a cassette player, remember im keeping it old school.

anything that is modern, ish isnt allowed in the car, ill break the rule for the lcd screen so i can have a megadrive though.

Thats a cool idea, i used to run a PS2 in my old nova, i had one of these setups in mine.....

http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/ce/centurion-dvd-in-car-plus-monitor.jpg

Mounted the bracket for the screen on top of the center vents and the screen slots on with a screw up wingnut thing on the back, and it sat in front of the vents and hid the bracket when in use, it and had its own plug near the screen for ease of removal so i took it out every night, trimmed a hole in the back of the glovebox and fitted the dvd player in there, flip open the glovebox lid and the dvd drawer slid out.

Then i had the PS2 mounted on the shelf under the glovebox on the passenger side shelf, power inverter was up behind the dash and the sound plugged into the dvd player with an av setting then into my headunit so i had all the sound through my stereo, i had the controller wired round the back of the dash and out on my side so i could coil the cable up and leave it on the drivers shelf, when it was out or not in use all you could see was the mounting bracket for the screen and the a/v feed plug from behind the dash so it was obvious it had been removed:thumb:

EDIT: Nice install Spud, how much did all that cost you then ?

Errr the screen setup was £150 from motorworld, the headunit was this one which was about £300 new at the time iirc...

http://blog.fubar.dk/archives/sony-cdx-f700.jpg

Then i was running sony tweeters, piggybacked off the oe dash speakers and another set top of the a pillars at £40 a pair, kenwood 6x9s on the rear shelf running from a 150 watt kenwood amp, then an alpine v12 amp running my 15" kicker comp sub in the boot, both amps and sub were purchased from a mate for about £250 iirc, that sub was unreal it kept up with everything i threw at it, drum and bass, happy hardcore, rock, dance, trance the lot, miss that setup really, then the power inverter was about £60 iirc and the PS2 came from a mate for about £80 i think, sold it all off when i became unemployed in 2006

Oh the weight wasnt an issue, it helped lower my car as the weight of the 15" sub in the boot lowered the back end by about two inches lol

I love the plan, PS1 FTW and get a screen in the sunvisor but no bigger than a lit mirror in a SRi so it will really blend in :D

Oakley sticker, bee sting aerial, monterey scoop, badly fitting 15s (either too wide or wrong offset) or the finally a 'Passion, grace and serious bass' sticker in the back window

i guess your main obsticles are sorting a power adapter out for the console and then havving the gear to take the picture and sound from it, and put it onto screen/speakers.

being in a car, id say keep it cartridge ideally, cd's skip to buggery.

the megadrive-II is the more compact of the 2 consoles, altho the original has a better sound card in it with a 3.5mm jack out, which might help.
micro-machines 2, turbo tournament is an all time classic that still pisses on todays games, 4 player too if u fancy multiple passenger action.

let us know how u get on, wouldnt mind seeing an oldskool setup like this :thumb:

Will do, ive got a sega megadrive here and a super nintendo, i think i will fit the megadrive.

Im going to try and get it working once the car has been rebuilt. ill have pics in the project thread.

CD HU's are as old tech as the PS1 (hence the format) lol
Same with the Mega Drive TBH. I bought my first CD/had a CD hi-fi in 1993 (Full on Dance '93) lol
