Now ive finally accuired a mk3 td astra as daily drive i thought it was about time i took the nova off the road as i have mayo under the cap and in some of the hoses around the rocker, a few more clunks than when i first got it and a very blowy exhaust.
My plan is to turn it into a track and fair weather car so the plans are as followed-

the headlining is going to come out along with the dash and sound deadening in favor for a pair of bucket seats

all excess metal from the doors and boot is going to be cut away

the windows will be replaced for polly ones

most if-not all bushes will be new poly items

The only real problem i have is that i dont know wether i should play around with the e16 im taking out or go big block:confused: either way once the engine is out the bay is being stiched up and strengthened where nessicery(sp).

Day 1

as it was fecking freezing i couldnt be arsed to do any hard work so i made a start stripping the engine of all easily accessable parts and disconnecting everything,

as you can see theirs no nasty rust/rot and the previous owner did a bad job at best with this conversion, the latter being the 2nd biggest reason to take it off the road

Day 2

so i managed to get a bit more done today

my first job was to move it of the s**ty gravel and put it on the drive, this is how she now stands

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac183/pikey1986/0062.jpg

then i set about removing the dash, i didnt realise how fiddly this would be but persavierence(sp) payed off lol

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac183/pikey1986/003-1.jpg

i then removed the wiring for the head unit as i wont be needing one

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac183/pikey1986/0052.jpg

then it was time to removed the exhaust system which was a load of different sized tubes welded together

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac183/pikey1986/002.jpg

finally the engine loom was taken out, i was shocked to find that nothing had been done properly, the last owner had cut away small parts of the plastic around the wires, wrapping and taping new wires over the top:roll:

i called it a day after this as i was cold and my back was aching as id been bent over all day lol

Day 3

I decided as today is dry and not too cold i would spend an couple of hours on it this morning, now i know this isnt a lot of progress for a couple hours work but with rusted nuts it took a little longer than planned lol

first up was too remove the shock, tie bar and hub off the near side leaving me with this

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac183/pikey1986/001.jpg

and

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac183/pikey1986/002-1.jpg

then do the same for the off side

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac183/pikey1986/008-2.jpg

but i couldnt get the steering rack disconnected so thought stuff it and called it a day as i was hank marvin(starving) and getting a tad frustrated,

a few pics of the rot i have so far come across
