unusual nova?

Ive just got back from the local scrap yard to find a D reg nova in a dark brown colour, what was strange about it was the sunroof area it was like a cabriolet type say twice the size of a normal sunroof, the other wierd thing i found is that it had a key barrel placed just below the back rear light on the drivers side arch:confused:

Any way this car is in the scrap yard 200 yards from me in st.helens and has two good doors and wings,bonnet,boot(obviously mk1)pov spec interior is clean too;)

other than that the battery tray,turret area's,boot front valance are all rusted(holes)

But I'm not sure a Sola was available on a D reg, however back then 'Webasto' useed to manufacture all kinds of add on parts for cars. Most likely something like that, dealer fitted or even aftermarket fit at home.

Wouldn't be a Sola, they were Mk2 only. Could possibly be a rare Irmscher sunroof conversion(Same as the Sola roof). I went to look at a genuine Sport in Sheffield a few years ago that had an Irmscher sunroof conversion in white, only one I have ever seen.

Buy it & restore it. Then you will own a very rare Nova :) Or stick an XE into it and take the rag off for that convertable feeling lol

Err yeah after all these years( 6 i think? ) on here i know that... BUT you didn't understand my reply i take it..

to SOME (as in none nova enthusiast's) some one that owned the sport might not know what it was, and thought it was just another 1.3 nova, so added GTE bumpers and a sola roof...

The sunroof on that was a dealer fit item and a genuine Irmscher part. So it is quite a rare car as I have never seen one before. I didnt buy it as it was not the best example and they wanted too much for it.

as it has been drained of all fluids and will soon have the chains around the roof for it to go into its location ready to be raped!

as i mentioned in the first post there is a lot of corrosion to the turrets both sides boot floor battery tray is on its way out,didnt even look under the car but the tell tale signs are there!

but they wouldnt sell it to me and it was a very straight and rust free example
so i literaly took the car away in parts,all but the shell(which was mint,and was scrapped only a few days later)

the only nova i have ever seen down our local albert looms was a white mk2 it was a rotten shell with 1 bonnet and a door but i was not into nova's at the time.

Looms' used to loads of Novas up until about 5 years ago when they declined in numbers rapidly. I have picked up some great stuff from there inc a 13SB engine and box from a mint low mileage Nova SR for £50. They used to have loads of early Novas with brown, green & red interiors up until then aswell!

I've just been up and had a look at this car today and it is really mint, the mark 1 tailgate is immaculate and the roof looks cool too, I think its after market as its a cut in jobbie but so were the microwave lids iirc, the car is a really dark metallic bronze brown like a euro colour

fairly new on here, but yes the brown nova in st helens looked fairly clean to me,too good to scrap, saying that didnt check beneath. interior seemed clean.
