i like it, nothing wrong with 4 doors with nice power, i remember reading a ford magazine with a white 4dr excort in it with xe power, makes it all the more unique.

Well that is one option, but even rarer than the one I was thinking of!!lol

Most try to use a Manta/Ascona A 1900 back axle as it's a straight swap, but hard to find and probably expensive.

A Manta B back axle can be used, but it's wider, so extended arches would be required which would spoil that car.

Just get the complete pedal box from a manual car, that bit is handy enough done!

I've a guide at home which shows how to convert an Ascona/Manta from Auto to manual, can't imagine the Chevette being much different, I'll send it onto you......

wicked mate thanks, yeh hopefuly i can find someone breaking one and get the pedal box. the other option is to put in an aftermarket pedal box with bias brakes etc. which might be a way to go :)

All you should do to that is coilovers and xe it keep the outside and interior totally standered :thumb:

Mate of mine has a Chevette and he's doing an engine swap on it (when his Nova is done) and I think he said he was going to use a BMW rear axle 130 or 330 or something, I cant remember what he said.

Sloth
19-12-09, 01:28 PM
et 25-30, pcd 4x100. normal vaux rims fit but are too far in the arches. as its an auto the tunnel is bigger, so easier to xe. plus it should have turreted rear shocks as std. looks to be a good buy tbh. p.s .if you get a piazza axle from a lotus tuned car they have an lsd. for the sump, alot of lads use a 2.0 8v sump and cut it up and make a big wing one.

Sloth
19-12-09, 01:31 PM
also, no offence but thats a bit too good to mess with, its pretty much concourse, i.e orig spare tyre etc.

Jack
19-12-09, 01:56 PM

Why? IMO a V6/8 would suit that a damn sight better than a 4cyl 16v, would be more in keeping with the era of the car too.

Although for once I agree with sloth, its a bit of a waste really to chop up what appears to be a very very tidy and original car.

Does look nice, Tbh its your car you paid for it so you can do what you want to it! as long as it all does well who cares what engine is in it. I would rather a XE in there with standard inside and out than how it is atm... and im sure most people would....sleeper ftw

so? he just needs to weld the tunnel and fit a different rear axle.
al the messsing is in area's you dont see...
i've seen my share of C kadetts and manta's... it has some hidden rust, i'm sure.

for the brakes, how is youre knowhow when it comes to messing with brakes?

best setup is volvo 240 calipers with honda prelude 2.0 16v disks. this needs some work to make it fit though.

the most easy option is 16v calipers (mk2 astra) with record 2.2 disks and manta b2 brake lines

bmw156
19-12-09, 06:44 PM
cheers sloth for the info. and about cutting it up. i did think it. but its not an HS or HSR, its not a 2/3 door so its never gonna be the creame of the crop so to speak. at the end of the day its a chevette worth 3 figures. people are chopping up mk2 escorts which are way into 4 figures.

Mayhem, yeh i have been reading on the chevette and droop snoot forums about brakes. i have heard of the volvo ones being used. also i saw a kit, which had the discs, and a conversion hub so you could use the astra 16v ones. but i wasnt keen on a brake disc being machined.

could i just use aftermarket ones like willwoods?

and also, i agree with mayhem, all the work i need to do will be hidden, i dont plan to put arches on it. and i dont plan a respray.

thing that might give away the sleep look could be, cage, interior, perspex window sliders. wheels possibly depending on what i get

thanks guys for the comments. cant wait to get it :D

dont know about volvo and 2.2 disks.
here the use prelude disks, but the need some modding.

there are many options, like golf mk2 rear disk setup etc.

get the std rims banded.

maybe an axle of a lada will be about right, kit car people use them & they should have 4 x 100pcd hubs

remember, spring seats & damper brackets are really easy to cut off and weld on to axles. just do the 'weld a bit, miss a bit' method so you don't distort the axle casing.
