was looking thru the traders forum at the nova's colin has and the ones he has scrapped etc, why do people rant over it?

for the ones that own nova's its a plus that hes scrapping so many (i know its **** that so many nova's are being scrapped)
But on one of them someone did say "soon novas will be as rare as mk1 escorts"
which in theory means that nova's will increase in price and if anyone was to sell there nova they would make alot more money of them if there rarer to find...

Is it just me who thinks that or am i just talkin cr4p?

They will never be as rare or sought after as a mk1/2 Escort. Ever.

IMO people on this site are very quick to scrap shells, if this was a mk1 Fiesta site almost everything would be saved.

They won't be able to pock and chose shells forever though. lol

10, million and 200,000 IIRC novas made worldwide, eventually they will be rare though.

i know they will never be as rare as a mk1, but surely in a few years time when there less nova's around they will increase in price dramaticaly (imo)
and i agree that people are to quick to get them scrapped, theres 2 people where i live who have mk2's that are gettin scrapped at the end of january for the scrappage scheme and they wont sell as a private sale...
very dissapointing, have offered £500 for each car but nope,,,

10.2 million

Wow never knew that

I thought it was more 3.5million. There have been a total of 12million Corsa's sold to date (Corsa A, B, C & D) so very much doubt 10 of those 12million to be Nova's.

lol @ 10 million nova's! WTF if there was then there would be loads still on the road today..
They never had them in Australia,or Asia, Or America, so thats not really world wide, they were a European car. (might of been in south America/Africa?? not sure?)

But i see what your saying Pete, maybe in another 20 years if there is as still a strong following it will be like the mk1 escort's, as my mate has a mk1 escort (the car's now 40 years old) and he's spent £20K+ bear shell rebuild, uses it for 1/4 miles some track, but it's a show winning car, and he knows he could sell it for £25K
And there is no way i can see a nova selling for that amount, unless it was a spotless sport in 15/20 years or so..

i understand what you mean but i know a nova will never fetch what a mk1 escort can but in for e.g. 15-20 years then nova's are goin to fetch more than a couple of thousand... maybe one day people will start to relise how uncommen they are and fork out some money to have a car that is rare..
theres alot of old cars about now that you could fetch for a couple of hundred years ago,

for e.g. my dad about 9 years ago owned.
a mini cooper
opel manta
ford capri

we scrapped all of them and now they fetch thousands,, people just dont think in a few years they could be worth a hell of alot,

its just a thort but i may be wrong... but no harm in speaking my opinion hay lol

Im agreeing with you mate, but i dont think the nova (as a standard car) will ever have the price tag any Escort/Manta/Ascona can, dose, as people are not that bothered about them, they dont have the massive motor sport history attached to them , thats what the thing is with mk1/mk2 Escorts, it's the hole massive motorsport/rally history, hence why i said it will only ever be a sport that might be able to "demand" a price in 15-20 years time..

Sports/GTE's/GSi's/SR's will be sought after, maybe even Antibes, SX's and SRi's, but Merit's, spins, etc will never be rare or 'sought after'. Its not easy to store a car for that long, and when you compare it to buying Gold or something, I don't think the return will be that great (if considered as an investment).

but I do agree with your point, I'd be surprised if a mint GTE/Sport wasn't going for £10k in 20 years time...

However, a mint 70's Triumph Spitfire still doesn't fetch much, to get £4k and your lucky....

People can rant about scrapped nova shells all they like, but at the end of the day if someone doesn't buy them you can't store them forever, it's hard enough to give them away with a pair of decent doors on! (which alone are worth a fair bit to the right person)

Pete

i dont agree with that, if your trying to give a nova away and cant then your just not trying hard enough, plenty of people are looking for nova's... by postin a thread on here and saying its free aint trying, theres plenty of other places to post it on and im sure someone will take it...

Looking at some of the cars that have been saved, i could of sold my old shell on, but it's a TIME factor, can you keep a car sat in the elements waiting for a buyer??

if you havnt got the room to store it whilst waiting for someone to buy it then yeah i understand why people scrap them, but if you have the room and patience then why rush it...

if a car is reasonably priced then i try and take them...

When I bought my new shell, it was very reasonably priced for a good shell and had been sat for months. When i posted it up on here it was met with a few "thank f*** someone saved that" type comments, now that's for a good shell at a low price. trying to get rid of something like mine, that needs more work than I can justify when there are shells around like the one I bought, is near on impossible.

Wanna buy my Celica then? lol

Novas will only be of value to enthusiasts (thats us, apparently). They will NEVER have the following akin to a Mk1 escort, VW Camper, Beetle, Golf, etc purely because Novas were never really highly regarded in their time; they were nothing special.

Sure prices will rise as they become rarer. Heck, IMO prices are already hitting the "daft" point, and I'm sure in a few years will be at the "WTF" point. As I've said before, when I fail to find a decent 2dr saloon for a decent price (which to me is a maximum of £3-500), I'm out of the Nova game. Before you say it, not yet as I've already passed up a few in that price range due to not having space/requirements for a reshell yet lol

Thats because spitfires are sh!t lol Go look at TR6 and Stag prices. Still sh!t in the grand scheme of things, but considerably better than Spitfires, and priced as thus.

Im sure the nova sport will be worth around 8 to 10k in 10 to 15 years, My dad got a manta exclusive 10yrs ago with 38k on the clock for around £900 its now worth £3k, & what about manta 400's in 92 you could pick one up for £5k now your looking £50k.

my bf got a kadett c coupe in the summer for £850 a guy from ireland wanted it so much he paid £3500 for it lol but 10 yrs ago you could pick one up for £200, cars come in & out of fashion like cloths If someone really wants some thing they will pay top prices to get it.

Standard Novas in the future will prob be priced like the old vauxhall chevettes are today.

You're forgetting the RWD element. That's the main reason for Chevettes pulling 'good' money. The one thing the Nova has going against it in spades. As already said, that along with motorsport heritage and a mssive selection of original/upgraded parts are the main reasons the mk1/2 Escort has such a loyal following The only FWD cars that seem to fetch good money are old Fords (and they will really rise) Yeah Nova's will go up, quite a lot but will never compare to old RWD models or anything with a blue oval unless a VX enthusiast is buying IMO.
