please help,
cumin bak from work suddenly cars looses power in whatever gear and the engines sounds as if its only firing on 3 cylinders making sort of chugging intermitant sound. iv checked plugs looks as if mixture bit rich but they all spark we checked its a 1.2 is there a common problem with the carb or sumin
any help will b most appreciated cheers
Could be loads of things.
Check the obvious
Otherwise could be head gasket. Compression test it

i had this a short time a ago. it puzzledf me. Then i found out that one of the plug leads wasn't in its holder after i replaced the Head gasket. It was resting on on of the exhaust outlets from the piston.
I got so many miles before it got hot and started melting through the lead and shorted that cylinder out. i.e. down to 3 cylinders. But i doubt u have the same problem.
bet you its warped head or head gasket. This happened to me - spunds like the engines running really rough and theres a kind of rumbling coming from the engine. When standing/idle the engines like dudum dudum dudum and when you rev it its more like derderderderderderderder (apologies for expressions but you get idea).
Whats the temp like?
I couldnt accelerate above 50 when mine went - thought it was misfiring (which it was) so thought maybe carb or dizzy - managed to get it to garage and head had warped
If it still does it when cooled down itll prpob be above prob. Make time to fit a new engine - 1.4 or summut - will just drop right in (al little tweeking here n there)!

cheers fellas
yeah it lost a lot of power wouldnt go above 35 even in second with foot flat to the floor. i looked at the plugs last nite there all bit black and 1 was wet so im replacing them and the leads 2day and c wat happens. i hope it isnt the head gasket how much would it cost 2 replace. do i jus experiment wit the carb like changing idle or is there a specific test u can do 2 c if it is functioning properly
chers 4 the help
if plugs are oily it could be piston rings.

iv replaced the pugs and leads and its made fuck all difference. we had a look inside the cyclinder head and we manually turned over the engne all pistons are working. we used a strobe on the timing belt that was a bit out but even after ajusting that it ran shit. wat do u wrekon could it b the carb it strugle at low revs but when revs are high the engine sounds better maybe sumin 2 do with fuel in carb any suggestions
cheers 4 ur help

2 weeks before mine went all I could get was 90mph out of a 1.4 SR!
sound like you are only firing on 3 cylinders, do a compression test on it.
mine did that and i had burnt a valve out! but may just be your head gasket

Iginition timing could be out? Also check your dissy & rotor arm?
you say the plug is wet, but wet with petrol or water? take the plug out and leave it conected and resting on ur slam panel, try to start the car, does that 1 spark? if yes do a compression test, if not then its electrical problem

Had the same thing happen on my 1.2, turns out it was a bad coil, and water in the fuel. halfords does somthing to remove water from the fuel which worked a treat

yeah the plug was wet with petrol but we checked all the plugs and there all sparking but i changed em all now nway. yeah my bruv gona get hold of a sum compression test eqiupment for me. what else should i test would it b worth taking the carb off 2 c if theres any shit sumwhere causing it 2 run shit. the cars only done 85 000 but could it still hav a warped head or sumin as serious as that
chers 4 advice
