View Full Version : Why is it...

...that when the price of oil drops (which it has), the local supermarkets go on about how they're having a "price war" (which they have) with each other and they're doing it off their own back as if to make out they're doing the consumer a por favor (which they are, but still)

$10 drop in the price of the black stuff also doesn't really equate to a 3ppl drop in the price of the clear stuff either.

Yes look at us, look at us, we're making petrol "cheap" but we're still bending you over the pump and giving you a oil induced shafting, more so than before, but we'll make out that we're doing you all a good deed by cutting our profits, whilst we're actually making more profit.

Gahhh.

On another note, the gold pricehas dipped too. So can I get less of those $$$$$$$CASH FOR GOOOOOLD$$$$$$ (subtitle: give us your lizzy duke that we can melt down and sell to the chinese for $$) ads on TV now please?

As if! Brown sold all our gold reserves to the chinese a looong time ago in an effort to fund his all expenses paid shrimp and lobster lunches.

Why do you think they're now appealing to us to sell our gold for a couple quid?

Stuart

Exactly?

If you don't want to pay £107.9 for fuel, the walklol

Same with gold, if you don't want to sell it then don'tlol

Or am I back to being simple?

Also, fuel is 73% tax IIRC?

(Dad works at stanlow refinery)

so, if we kill gordon brown, then we will still be fooked, as the rag ass tories will get inlol

Not to be rude, but no.

They are a business, like any other. They buy the gold cheap and sell it on to make their profit. So remembering it like that, if they can sell something foe for £100, they wont buy it for £100 will they? They'll buy it as cheap as they can. Again its simple really.

it is essentially appealing to lazy money grabbing muppets.

Clever/profiteering folks will get the best price via the right methods :)

LOL Ok, come live in Somerset for a week without a car. Lets see you walk miles and miles everywhere shall we sunshine?

Granted you can buy more economical vehicles, but not everyone can afford to own the latest and greatest ecoboxes.

Fuel isn't 73% tax, its 53.19p duty, then 15% VAT. Of your 103.9ppl, thats about 13.5p. So 66.74p is VAT & Duty - thats more like 64%, which is actually lower than when the tories were in power. But still. lol

(incidentally, duty on LPG is going up faster - 2.85p raise - than that of petrol & heavy oil, but thats another rant)

no they wont, and i wouldnt either but theres no need to lie and rip off pensioners. 'thats the best price you'll get round here' he said...

and if the other jewellers could offer 180quid and still be making profit, how much would he be making having only paid 80 for it?!?!

whos the money grabber, my 78 year old grandad who's skint or the bloody cash for gold guy???

General concensus of this thread seams to be...

Dont sell your gold to strangers in the street
Kill Gordon Brown
Use red diesel
Kill Gordon Brown
Tax is a con
Use red diesel

staggy_gsi

maybe so, but imo its still wrong to take advantage of an OAP, especially by lying to them etc.

anyhoo, slightly off topic now i feel....

and you'd be amazed how it is possible to get round the red diesel dippers....

false filler necks, double tanks, fuel filters with no drain... fuel bowls that aren't actually in the line etc. i even know a bloke who uses heating oil in a perkins powered range rover. its the same colour as derv.

Red diesel i hear you say........ Even that's shot up from when I was using it. veg oil too. :(

Nothing like a 5g drum full of red and a few litres of chip fat. lol Filling up with oil in the supermarket carpark for the big lols.

I thought LPG duty was fixed until (not sure when)? If they do stick up the prices at the petrol stations, people will just acquire it from places that sell if for heating purposes IMO.
Unlike good ole gas oil it can't be traced either.

blue_peg_16v
16-12-09, 10:28 PM
have done that in the past but veg oil is about £1 a litter now so no point

L14MNP
16-12-09, 10:29 PM
Yeah, not much point. Can get it for about 88p/l if you buy catering drums from Cosco. I don't have the need any more though.

blue_peg_16v
16-12-09, 10:52 PM
that makes it more viable but used to be 40 odd p a liter

Yep. Was awesome when it was that much. Cherry for 36p/l too iirc.

As they said, sorry dude but its true. These places make a huge profit cause people want a quick buck. It really is supply and demand.
