Im currently building an A reg mk1 nova. When its finished i dont want it to be hiding in a garage for 8 months of the year. I obviously wont run it in the winter months.

Who else runs there nova for most of the year everyday? If so what engine?

My nova im still building, its near enough immaculate, i plan to finish it and pass my test and use it daily. its an E Reg.

But ill be a puff with it and take the wings off every now and again and be cleaning the wheelarches out and stuff lol and always polishing it.

lol dont think they are that many off us that drive them daily now...

a few years ago i loved havin a daily nova , now i think its horrid. wouldn't have another for a daily unless it was for financial reasons etc , but the fact that i dont drive it daily makes me love it even more when it does come out .... lol

I drove mine everyday when it was on the road and it was working. But its currently in bits again and i dont intend to put it back on the road untill summer probs, simply because i have another car to use now.

To be honest if your worried about taking it out in "the winter months" that will be most months in England sadly. Novas should be out and about driven. Pointless having a really nice car if no one ever sees it....

210bhp 3.0 V6. Used almost everyday, interchangeably with the Celica. Its interesting in the wet.

At the moment in fact its sat on my driveway whilst the Jap machine has the nice dry garage lol

200 miles is the most ever done in a Nova, wouldn'y fancy much more, just the drone of a backbox with no baffles used to annoy me on the m'way

diesel van does it on £40 it is a nightmare but my gsi vectra will be more pleasent

Jack
16-12-09, 01:16 AM
And cost you twice as much lol

I think 150 miles is my range max for the Nova. The seats are comfy as hell but I had epic back pain after coming home from MK. I think that may have been due to the odd lead foot syndrome though lol

i was planning of using mine everyday but decided to buy a 1.2 to drive round atm im doing about 70 miles a day and plus my water pump has gone on my xe so its delayed putting her back on the road lol

I use mine everyday as its the only car I own, its a C12NZ on 98,6300 or there abouts, has a sticky lifter, blowing exhaust, tyres are a touch too wide, suspension is too stiff, timing is retarded a bit too far (although it pulls better now than it did before) and one of the headlights needs sorting out (the reflective stuff inside the light fell out of place)

I very very very nearly got 6 points and £120 in fines due to the tyres and driving the wrong way up a one way back street. Gimp/lewi, you can keep sunderland to yourself, never again am I driving my car down there.

Mine is my Daily drive E reg GTE with and XE in 60 mile trip for 5 days a week just for work and then all the running around in between and it lasted a year and the head gasket has gone but should be fixed by the end of this week so i will be back in it again :thumb: absence realy does make the heart grow fonder

on another note this was my 1001st post yay for me

i used to, then did the "other cars" phase where i had some boring stuff (mk2 golf gti...*yawn*) and bought my latest nova as a p[laything with the cav as a daily. i honestly can believe i used to run one day to day! altho saying that the other half has been using it daily for the past 3 months and has fallen in love with it lol

Ran my xe Nova everyday for pretty much 2 years then decided too much work was needed for MOT so did an xe corsa instead for work.

Corsa is so much comfier and handles better.

If I had to use a Nova as an everyday car I think I'd crack up, they just aren't a pleasant place to be all the time!!

I could use the Manta or Ascona as an everyday car though, can't get over how comfortable they are considering their age!

sparkie1401
16-12-09, 09:37 AM
i will use mine as my daily driver if it ever gets finished

Would never go back to a nova everyday not just because of weather but due to there being no comfort features fitted.

Used to drive the Nova everyday (before it blew the HG) Non stop everyday for 4 years, rain, shine, sleet, snow etc Never missed a beat, started first time everytime in the freezing cold even with the K&N on with no hot air feed :) Serviced on a regular basis and looked after. Engine was a 1.2 carb.

If the car has been adequately protected from the elements like waxoyl etc under body, is servced on a regular basis, paint has been polished and protected and isn't thrashed day in day out then it will be fine.

I use my 1.5td every day that its working but luckily enough (or not depending how you look at it) it was off the road for most of last winter and missed the salty roads and due to funds I think the same will happen this year. I miss driving my nova.

ive took mine off the road as i intend on putting it on a crash diet and giving it a decent heart lol but i was using it everyday for a year, other than my alternator dieing and replacing a wire from the fuel pump relay it never let me down and it was soooo much fun

ive now got a mk4 astra for a daily as the nova was uncomfortable and cramped especially being 6ft6 lol, its made me realise how nice it is to have a radio and room,

Use to use my old GSi everyday till it's last year, then got a second car due to to expensive on fuel, and not practical for work etc..

I could and some times do use the mk1 for work, everyday things etc, and i do from time to time use the track car to work and back, but it's just not practical on fuel, nor comfort (it's like driving in a freezer at the moment, i have no heating at all in it! and i feel sick from the shaking! lol)

my mk1 5 door is used daily.

marc69
16-12-09, 09:05 PM
my breg 993 ohv is used everyday. all panels were replaced/reppaired 2 years ago, so as it is used rain or shine, all underside and all cavities are painted/undersealed and then the MOT stations nightmare..............covered with a layer of grease so water cant penetrate.
Ask me in 5 years if it has worked as most cars this far north used to show fair signs of rust after 3 or 4 years!
Only other tip is always have a spare starter/altenator/distributor and battery for a car of this age, I have been caught out many times

Mike

They should be used every day as that's what they were designed for originally

I use my 1.2i K plate every day as well - Rain, hail, snow, ice, fog etc etc etc lol

Very very good fun to drive even though it's quite loud, raw, bumpy and squeaky but that's the joy of owning one

Keep it Waxoyled, clean under the arches, bodywork clean and well mechanically maintained and they'll serve you right

I've done 8k miles since the end of July this year and they've all been very well :thumb: Can't beat them

I would love another xe'd GSi,or GTE to drive daily, but it's not practical for me any more, i require a bigger better loading space for things, plus i like more luxury's then just a pop/slide sunroof and EL windows! lol

I had the same attitude as you when I was your agelol

I used my SR as my everyday car from 1986-1996, rain or shine, in winter was equiped with snow tyres, and was regularly waxoyled, it still rusted away needing a full rebuild.

Waxoyl helps but wont necessarily stop the rot, be warnedlol and it is even worse trying to repair a waxoyled car, after stripping the shell down I spent many hours with a steam cleaner removing the stuff:roll:

Like many old cars it is better to avoid the salt, definitely wouldn't run my now during the winter.;)
