Seeing as my computer knowledge goes as far as opening up a webpage, i need some help.

I have Vista on my laptop, its useless, but I dont want to get rid of it for XP etc. I want to fix it.

I cant download fcuk all, when i try a box opens up and says " Security Alert"
'Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded'

Anyone have any suggeustions before I burn it?

+ rep and ill be eternally grateful for the person who sorts it out

Paul

Try turning UAC off, I don't know if this work for sure but its worth a try, if it doesn't work remember to turn UAC back on.

To turn UAC off do the following

Start>control panel>user accounts and family safety>user accounts>turn User Account Controls on or off>continue.

Then untick the box and press continue.

To turn it on do the same again but tick the box.

Get rid of all of those toolbars that you have. If that doesnt work, try installing Opera or Google Chrome and see if they work for you.

Are you running an antivirus?

Is that not a firewall issue rather than the browser blocking it?

TBH I wouldnt piss on Vista if it WAS on fire. Get 7 if I were you, or good old reliable XP.

Nope, its either a browser issue, local security policy issue, or DLL registration issue.

First, can you confirm you're logged in as a user with admin privileges and you have read/write capability to the folder you're trying to download to?

Secondly, confirm downloads are enabled in IE8:

Click Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > highlight Internet and click "Custom Level" > scroll down to "Downloads" an confirm the "File Download" radio button is set to "Enable"

Thirdly, try re-registering the urlmon.dll file:

Click Start, then Run (if Run does not appear on your start menu, use the search option that appears on it)

In the command prompt, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, then click Ok.

You should get a confirmation message. If not, reply back and I'll give you some other DLLs to register.

Try this. In IE8 > Tools > Internet options > Security (tab) > select Internet Icon > Custom Level button > under Downloads >> File Download - set this to enable.

I fail didn't see RJ's lol

Do what RJ is suggesting and then download firefox and use that instead.

Also get rid of those useless toolbars!
