gearbox cant get 2nd

just befor i go about ripping the box out i thought id ask if anyones hsad this before. feels like its in 2nd but its in fourth. just not there at all. could it be the selector on top of the box? thinking mabe linkage moved a bit so gunna try that but dnt rewally know out about the selector thing. any ideas. thanks in advance

I would attempt to relign gears before removing the box, very easy to do just slacken the 13mm nut on the gear selector where the under the car section attaches by the exhaust and then on the top of the box where the selector is remove the little black rubber bung and push in a drill bit or similar 4.5mm iirc and wiggle the selector until it slots in and wont move, then select 1st gear in the car and retighten the 13mm nut.

your right, but i thought you had to have the selector in neutral pushed over to the left (between 1st and 2nd)

lol i couldnt decide if it was 1st or reverse but 99% sure its 1st

the way i do it (and seems to work ok) is to select 1st on the box after loosening the bolt of course;) then put the selector in 1st and tighten the bolt

put it in second gear from the engine bay, that will tell you what you need to know

ive always done it in reverse, i think thats what haynes says...

Also oil or preferably grease all the linkages between the lever and box, they suffer quite badly with partial siezure (corrosion, heat from the exhaust, etc.)

Mine has been much better since i did this.
