View Full Version : Brand new Nova shell... Myth
My Dad went out last night and got talking to a bloke who had built a Red top nova about 2 years ago, he claims he bought a new shell from spain for £800 in 2007...
Can you still buy the shells, is this possible (too cheap i thought)? and Can you get them for TDs and how much ???
Or was all of this pub talk??
pub talk novas would have been stopped being made since the corsa b was releaced
lol I thought so, how do some people get hold of them ??

Possibly bought an unused shell that had been stored, I remember seeing a five door shell on eBay a few years back that someone had stored for many years for some unbeknown reason, so while he may have bought a shell from Spain, they won't be being produced

A myth sadly, the last brand new shell i heard of was the one rich has, i didnt have any numbers on the shell, but had been painted, not very well thou iirc, it would be good to still be able to get a brand new shell, but sadly will prob never happen thou.

I've heard this myth loads of times also heard that going into Vauxhall with XXXXX Amount f £'s would buy you one, but its not fesable for Vauxhall to make it!

If they were all brand new, they wouldn't be mint now...
there used to be spare shells (EPC still lists kadett E for instance) but there all gone now.
i remember a new cav shell popping up a few years ago.

I remember a good few yrs bk that Vauxhall melted down a couple of thousand nova shell's to make room for the corsa b ones. Bet they would make a couple of million if still had them now.

i remember seeing a mk3 cav loon shell on the bay for £150. brand spankers. some random company in sheffield has a warehouse full of shells.

I worked for a local Vauxhall garage way back in 2001 when Nova's were still 10 a penny,having cheked whilst doing up one of my many nova's they still listed the shells available to buy from the factory. Worked out at about £1200 back then! (for a bare shell, no doors wings etc.)
Another rumour was a rally firm bought up the last of the shells from Vauxhall and have whats left hidden away somewhere but who knows for sure really!
Would deff buy a brand new shell now if they were still out there somewhere......
I would get a Loan if they were £1200 and get my TD perfect, and after all the **** I spray underneath it, it would never rot again !!
Didn't Rich put his up for sale recently and had no takers?

As has been said the only way you'll get a new shell is by buying one from old stock that someone has kept, there is bound to be a few around but it certainly wouldnt be easy to find ! there is a few companys who have old stock of other body shells i.e p205 and but i've never seen any Nova ones available.

/\ as above. For £1200 though its totally viable, esp if you could get trade-club or Gold card discount. Hey they'd probably even throw it out or sell one for a tenner if it was taking up space.
Those Novas in France were in a scrapyard irc? Not what we think of as a scrapyard, but more of a peacefull resting place in the sun (on damp grass)
Some users on here know rally guys so they'd be able to make enquiries and track one down. ;)

Never seen or heard of any new shells, there was one floating around a couple of years ago that had no VIN stamp.
I know you can get golf MK1's new from a company that bought the rights, i doubt vauxhall have ever allowed a similar thing

you can also get new mini shels that are patern parts and in america you can buy camero shells as patern parts so depends on demand to be truth full the nova dosent have a big enough following for a company to start making shells, the mini is loved all over the world which is why that is viable then nova wasnt it has a following here and a small following in europe but nowere near enough demand imo

The company that does the mk1 golfs is ironically VW. Theyre still made in south africa. Although i think production may be stopping soon
^ 12 door onlly though, with Lupo dash and other crazy bits. Golf City.. Mexico makes the bay/split buses still also, albeit with a gay radiator bulge on the front panel!

About 3 years back on mk2cav.com and ebay a saloon 1.6 shell and an estate one.
I got into an forum slanging match as the guy that eventually ended up with the saloon shell was building a Calibre Replica but was going to use the chassis plates and number plate off a long since scrapped car. I helpfully pointed him to the DVLA/VOSA website and pointed out that his intentions were actually illegal. The only way to take a pile of bits off 3 or 4 cars and stick them into a new/old shell (secondhand but unused) would be to go through an SVA. EVEN if he was just reshelling a Calibre and the only new part was the shell, he'd need written confirmation from the manufacturer that it was an identical swap, which it was not as a) it had had 3 or 4 owners and b) it didnot have sun roof hole, or the extra chassis parts of the 1.8/2.0 shells.
I think I pissed a few people off, by saying it like it was but basically I was saying BE careful what you say on the internet because If you do something illegal the Fuzz will crush it. :cry:

Robots are used to build modern cars. And they still come out wonky. Trust me on that one!!! lol
i know schools get snowed off, but i have never heard of a car factory getting snowed off before.... I bet you all ran out swinging your satchels about and diving into the nearest snow banks

One of our main suppliers is based in Gloucester and another in Coventry IIRC. The A417 was impassable yesterday so no parts to build cars, hence the closure.
As for swinging satchels... WTF. Top Gear lunchbox more like lol
