i think you need the engine mount from a petrol nova as the diesel one wont fit and the radiator mounts are different but im not 100% on that lol, imo keep it a diesel

Yea your old van was ace!!

Although if you want to put a petrol motor into a Diesel shell, you need to change the entire drivers side chassis leg for a petrol one (think its the drivers side anyway?)

Which one was is we changed on yours Nick??

Just put a 1700TD in. Easier, and you could still waste and XE with a little tuning, whilst still getting 50+ mpg lol

^thats very true!

Waste an Xe, is this really true??

Jack

Yes. 20XE's really aren't that fast!

Mike

Dunno about flat out speed, but from a standing start I could easily believe it.

Ive got a boggo standard 1700cc van that weights 1505kg, its got 135lb/ft of torque yet only about 70bhp ish, it'll smoke a lot of cars from a standstill TBH. Thats at about 3psi of boost.

Once its chipped it'll make 178lb/ft, which is more then an XE IIRC??

Astra 1.7TD is 82bhp (so think Nova SRi) and 124lbft (so about 20 shy of an XE). A remap and/or a few more psi boost and that will easily walk all over an XE.

^ on the older TD GM engines, like what Nova's/Cav's/Astra's etc etc have you can easily run them at like 20psi.

Or 40psi if you weld the pressure valve shut....like Baxter did.........an blew it up big time....

I am running 21psi in my 1500 I would love to get it dynoed, goes well but not as well am my mates GTE

A std 15DT should give a GTE a run for its money, one with that much boost should honk it

If a 21psi 1500 isn't spanking a 1.6 GTE, your fuelling is off or you need a better intercooler.

The mondeobarge has 243 lb-ft and 130bhp, and tips the scales at around 1500kg. My mates mk1 focus has a 2.0 zetec, 130bhp, weighs around 1250kg. They're about the same speed as one another in a straight line. With a remap I could expect around 160bhp and 280lb-ft.

When I get another nova, I'll be wanting to create a diesel sleeper :d.

I would say the Fuelling is right, It smokes a little before boost and then clears at about 3500rpm, my Torque is maybe more than the GTE and I bet min would pull better but it aint go that High powerband like them small block petrols...

I dont have an intercooler, don't plan on getting one either!
I do plan on getting a 1.7td though and doing the white ring Mod

P.s. Mine will only hold full 21psi in First and sometimes second, In the higher gears Boost drops off at around 14-16 psi

do you realise how hot the boost pressure is ?

i have to run an oil cooler on mine aswell as i could cook chips in the sump lol

yer not been on in a while pal. but comeing back to a nova hopefully next week

tis diesel idea is sounding good now ha

and yeh i agree i dont think xe's are that fast anymore, was going to swap my 320 witha xe corsa we had bit of a race on some land of his and we were neck an neck and the beemer wasnt quick

can you get different turbos on these then?

You say that but mine really does not run that hot, I have thrashed **** out of mine and pulled up and the turbo isn't as hot as I thought it would be. You can put your hand on the boost pipe. I took the temperature at work and it was 40degrees entering the inlet (proves there is no need) Now if I add more fuel it might just get hot enough but there is no way it does now!!

P.s. Have you seen the size of the rad on tds, where the **** is an intercooler going to go, I was thinking of getting one under the bonnet as that would be easy to do but wouldn't do it to a 1500... maybe if i pop a 1700 in!

Any one got any videos of 1700td novas, any pictures of the engine bays, boost pipe location, intercoolers etc... No body seems to do these conversions on here !

Look for count vaux alot's corsa.

Balley

Seen the Corsa, but theres much more space behind a Corsa bumper!

Any way went for a good spin in my car yesterday, and I actually think its a fast as my mates GTE now (maybe faster), you see when I last went in his mine was only at about 11psi with half a turn on the max fuel screw now its 21psi with 3/4 of a turn on the fuel so I always remember the GTE being faster but I think now its not the case...
And I know if we had a race up a hill mine would trance it as it pulls amazing up hills :D
