i just fitted a ripspeed dv720 headunit in my escort, now my amp says its getting no power. i checked all fuses are fine, wiring is fine. when i messed around with the wiring i put the earth back on and it sparked and red light came on for a second. so surely it is getting power somewhere? any ideas?

It needs the 'remote' signal to switch it on, hence why it doesnt drain any power when the stereo is switched off.

Much like a starter motor has a permanent 12v but only spins when you 'switch' it on with the key.....

Sounds like your fuse has popped either in the engine bay or on the amp itself, check both of these:thumb:

check your blue remote cable....

check that you haven't snagged the remote cable on anything when running it through the car ( if you removed panels to install cable check you didn't screw through the cable etc ) to do this just disconnect the remote from the amp and loop a cable to it from your 12v permanent, if the amp turns on then there is a short in your remote.

Does the red light not mean its going into "protection"? Or is that the power light on your amp? What amp is it by the way? Naff earths can cause all manor of problems. I take it that the amp worked fine before you put new hu in? Is the hu brand new or second hand? As above though. First off check ALL wiring for signs of poor connection and damage!!
