No need to worry about emissions then?

Unless your trying to sort a running problem weirdly?

what it is, is my mechanic needs to know what the emissions would be for that enginge of that year

Any MOT station will have a chart. Search for Nova, non catalyst or the one that applies to the car you removed the XE from.

He still needs it to be within a certain limit AW. Although non cat emissions aren't as stringent.

Oh the engine didn't originally come with the car you bought? Just say it came out of a 1992 Calibra, wont need a cat then.

Edit: and that's now what you wanted to know lol, I'm not sure what the emissions should be, try google.

Take the oil filler off and look inside, iirc there should be a stamp in there of the year of manufacture. My 1989 20XE had 89 in a circle stamped in there

It doesnt actually matter, because it goes on whichever is older, the engine or the car, unless the car was built after 1995.

If you fit a 2009 Astra VXR engine to a 1986 Nova, it gets tested as a 1986 Nova.

Mmm must fit a 1983 oil cap to my next Nova for bragging points.

Seriously though I'm not sure a casting from a spurious part of a cylinder head on an egine which has known porous head issues is reliable enough to go by. If the engine is a 93 Cav XE, it ought to be a dis-pak style XE with the 2nd inlet air temp sensor. If you have no Lambda sensor in the exhaust manifold, its an early Astra GTE setup & Obv the Lambda/dizzy/no cat is likely the Cav GSi & early Calibra but extends to Astra GSi's also.
